Ideally, I would prefer someone from tbhp mumbai who has a lot of experience with these cars to come along with me to evaluate these cars since I am pretty clueless. I have sent a few messages to a couple of tbhpians but so far nothing has come out of it, therefore I am considering this service.

I understand what you are trying to say and agree that they have no authority or expertise in matters of W124, but I am assuming that they would know more about what to look out for and how than someone like me with zero experience in these matters.

There is one in IndiraNagar Bangalore for about 3-4 lakhs. Its in running condition and looks like its gone through some rough use at the hands of the second owner.

Check with Raja from pune, he started this thread. I have seen his Merc in Pune meet and its good. he might be able to give some inputs.

I had a conversation with Raja yesterday and it was pretty helpful. I will keep all the inputs from you, Raja and phantomlord in mind while checking the W124s.

What do you think was wrong with the car to say this? And which other thread are you guys talking about?

I think the wiring harness has a strawberry flavour which the rats in Mumbai love to chew up. :uncontrol
Never heard of the biodegradable theory! at least not in 10 years.

Consider

1: What authority do they have to state "official"
2: How do well do you judge their integrity?
3: How will they ascertain the mileage - w124's hold their mileage well
4: No of owners - as per RC book - fine , there may be a no of phatom owners who never transferred the ownership

Check the three cars yourself, take the best one and get a good independent garage to go over it

Sounds like a scam by the local agents to sell lemons to gullible customers. One scamster hires another scamster to recomend him.

Resale values of the W124 - especially the petrol E220 - are tanking big time. Good for us enthusiasts, I saw an immaculate example with 1,05,000 kms on the odo go for 2.45 lakhs!

I can't think of a better way to spend 2.5 lakhs.

That is phenomenal! I certainly have to move to a house with a bigger garage and smaller living space!

I Want To Change My Normal 124 Headlights And Put Clear Headlamps Imported From Taiwan . Is It A Good Idea Or Should I Stick With The Old Ones. Please Help Guys.

@astle whats the update on your search?

Hey Reitz,

The owner of the car *just* bought one for that price. I doubt he'll sell her already. Plenty of W124s with asking prices for 3 - 3.5 lakhs. Bargain 'em down, a 13 year old petrol Merc with poor FE isn't exactly hot property these days.

Agree with GTO on getting a better deal based on the age of the car and possibly high maintenance costs/low FE. Have a few questions for the W124 owners/enthusiasts on here:

1. How bad is the insurance? I looked up policybazaar to find that the earliest E-class they insure is a 2000 model.
2. Can anyone recommend a few W124 specialist garages in NCR? No point going authorized now that the prices have nearly bottomed out.

Actually, that's nothing to do with E-Class' and more to do with insurance companies unwillingness to insure cars over a certain age. My Jeep is now running on 3rd party simply because I can't find an insurer who is willing to extend it comprehensive coverage ('97 build).

E 250 D, 1997 second owner Kerala Vanity number blue, clear lamps, new E class grille and Alloys is available for 7 lakhs.
