An 1994 3-series would be the E36 model, which is a generation out of date (the current model is the E43), and will soon be two generations out of date (the E43 is being replaced this year). I did a web search but nowhere could I find any information about an E36 330tds. Are you sure it is not a 325tds?

See these pages for model info on the E36.

10.5 lakhs seems pretty high for a car the size of the old Honda City (my guess, from the few E36's I have seen around Bangalore) with ~145 bhp, with 75K on the odo. Try negotiating with the owner - if he really wants to sell, the buyer pool would be very small and it is unlikely he would get a better offer.

I don't know about the tax, sorry.

330tds is impossible (except the car has had a transplant which dosent seem to be the case).
Not more than 5-6 max if the car is in the best of condition. I have seen 96 LExus sell for 8 laks in exceptionally mint condition.
BMWs are very expensive to maintain in India, be careful !!

Regarding state transfer, ask him whether he is jumping any octroi etc!!
And what docs u will be having at the end of the transaction.

Check whether 94 is the year of manufacture or import.
Also , check yrself what exactly lies below the hood. there were a array of engine options as listed in the links above.

and PICS pl

If you look on Baazee, fazulbhoys have a 1993 Merc 300SE w140 advertised for 8 lakhs. The BMW is way overpriced

Conventional wisdom

Four years back I came pretty close to leasing a BMW 328i in USA. But then I blinked and settled for an Acura 3.2TL. Anyway, I had researched a lot during that time about BMW. The conventional wisdom about BMW was that you should keep it until warranty runs out. After that it becomes a white elephant to maintain.

And here you are talking about buying a 1994 model which is really out of date and out of warranty...

Depending on the condition id say at best about 6.5 lacs, at worst 5 lacs.

I believe there was a 5 series of similar vintage for sale in Mumbai. Asking price - Rs.2,50,000. Go figure.
