The first one is more genuine that the second one. Te second one even if more genuine will be in a worse condition due to non-use

On mercedes you do service based on the FSS. It usually takes care of oil condition as well as time (days) between services. Usually you have to service the vehicle (A or B service) once a year. Will it break? I dont think so. If they use full synthetic oil, they stay good for a long time. Either one would be good. I would prefer the newer one, since I believe in 2003 they came out with the new body style and mechanicals. It takes usually couple of years to iron out the gremlins. Just my 2 cents.. Good Luck & Congrats. By the way, BMW is a better driver's car, if you like to throw it around the corners.

Go for the 2005

Go for the 2005 model. This is not an ambassador that will catch rust if used less.
Although check for accident history in case the 2005 model has been in a serious wreck. Also see if you will be able to afford the service cost of the merc as they are expensive.
Cheers

I'd say you go for the 2005 car:

1. Ajmat does have a point in that, Mercs are built to run. The more they are stationary, the more the problems. However, depending on when in 2005 the car was built, it is at best 2.5 years old and at worst 3.x years. A car that has been sparingly used for 3 years wont pose as much of a problem as a one that has hardly seen the road for 10 years.

2. Do check the service history to ensure that the odometer has not been tampered.

3. I'd go one step further and have the car run through a comprehensive check at an authorised Benz workshop. This would cost you only about 5,000 bucks, and is worth the fee.

4. A later W211 car should mean that more niggles were ironed out.

The quoted prices are pretty high since petrol Mercs do not command as strong a resale as their diesel counterparts. Please bargain aggressively and get it down by atleast 20%.

what do you say about this?
which one among the three? since e-270 is a superior motor.

Now we are talking! The E270 CDI is an absolute stonker. Still, the price of 31.5 lakhs is much too high for a 3 year old Benz. 25ish would be appropriate. Where are you getting these quotes from?

You know what I suggest : Take a test of the new C too....its roomier than the previous generation, while the ride quality is not stiff anymore either. The main complaint of the W211 E Class (the ones you are checking out) is that it has a pretty small interior. Compare it back to back with the new C, and you will be amazed at the negligible difference.

Plus, you get a brand new car in the C220. Lastly, consider the higher interest rates on used cars if you are opting for finance.

Do update us once you have taken a spin in the new C.

The new C is definitley the best option in that price bracket.
The early 2004 W211s had suspension problems, which they improved with changed springs and shocks in 2005. The E270cdi is far superior to the 240 in all respects though. Difficult to get a nice E270cdi for 25 lacs though, should be around 28.
If you do buy the CDI, add the Brabus Perfomance box, and you will see wonders from that motor! I've added one on my E280cdi and its added 50bhp with better fuel economy! It costs about 1.50lacs here.
GTO has a valid point in the interest costs on preowned vizaviz new, if its on finance.

should be around 25 max. But as GTO and scooby05 suggested, do consider a new C.

Hey cplbantu,

I had a dealer who offered me a E200 2005 for 22 lakhs last month (I did not even begin negotiating) but since I am out of our Country I am still getting inputs on dealer credibilty from team BHP and outside.

I hope the above figure gives you a ball park range for E200 2005

Regards,
Dyx
