Most Management consultants who are on the job in the initial part of their career would not have the time on hand to maintain a Preowned Safari let alone a Merc.

Suggest you opt for a Preowned Corolla, Civic or Accord (which too can potentially have high maintenance) and leave the Merc dream for a bit later in life.

Re: Buying Advice regarding 1996 W124 E220 Petrol

Bumping up an old thread. Just saw an E220 on Team-Bhp Classifieds at Autohanger Mumbai, spoke to them and basis the discussion the car appears to be in good shape.

Have some Q's:

1. Is 2013 a good time to buy an E220? Primarily from part's availability?
2. I have 2 cars and actually don't need another car, just getting tempted for the Tank, if used for 100-200kms a month would it last for 10-15 years?
3. Any clues on govt. rules and regulations around owning a car with more than 15 years?

Awaiting a quick response

Hi,

1, Yes it is, parts are mostly available in Mumbai itself.
2. It'll last forever if maintained well and OE parts are used. ( read on a thread and is very true: a cheap Mercedes is the most expensive). parts aren't exactly cheap but are high VFM given their durability. Old Germans love to be driven around, they will sink to death if not used.
3. One needs to have Fitness check done every 5 years and in MH a green tax is payable along with that. If the 15 years has already lapsed,it means car is practically unregistered but I guess a competent agent should be able to sort it for a reasonable fee/fine.

All the best, it is indeed a great car
