took a plunge and bought the thing. does put out regular fires. haven't tried out oil/electrical fires though.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER - FIRE STOP WITH A FREE HOLDER gifts in india at rediff shopping.

this is the thing. I'm kinda stunned looking at the rediff price though. 1499, on sale at 549 :Shockked:

at big bazaar, it had an MRP of 249, and they sold it to me for 199 lol:

I suppose they should be effective for putting out minor fires

AFAIK, fire retardants are used to make a circle around the fire to stop its spread. They are not meant to be sprayed onto the flame.

greenie, thats the same one that I have installed in my car, I think I got it for 200 bucks a year ago, even though it doesn't instill much confidence, but atleast I can douse a fire if someone drops a burning cigarette butt in the car :D

any Ideas where to install it ? someplace acessible in need, but out of sight , and where it wont rattle ( currently put in my door pocket)

If you're comfortable with it, why not leave it there? There really are no 'guidelines' for installing one! :)

First, I am praying that the money you spent goes waste!!! ;-)

A good place would be the B pillar just above the seat belt holder; "Out of sight"?? Never. What if you are in a situation that only some body outside the car is alone is in a position to help?

The Fire extinguisher comes Co fitted on the new Santro Eco (CNG) version.

I am thinking of getting Ceasefire HCFC clean agent fire extinguisher.
The quoted cost is Rs. 5520+14% vat for 1kg model + 5% discount

Is this price ok?
What capacity is required for the car - 0.5kg or 1kg?

I had one in my car for a few weeks, but threw it off. It was gifted by my relative and I had to fix it. When I had it, it was fixed in my A Pillar, on the passenger side. Pretty ergonomic position. In case of accidents too, a person coming to help can easily spot it and use. Can never get out of sight. I had no visibility issues, and also, no rattles.

Nevertheless, a Fire Extinguisher is a useful thing to have in a car. :thumbs up

B'lore T-BHPians please help me out: Any idea if fire extinguisher is available in Carnation ORR, 3M Car-care Marathalli or Marathalli HomeTown ? I am planning a drive on Saturday and wish to buy one before that. Any store in the Marathalli area which stocks portable fire extinguisher ?

Dad recently got Fire Extinguishers and small hammers fitted in each car.
Will post pictures soon.

You're all praise for it, and yet you threw it away.. any particular reason? or was it just personal preference..?

Could you share the pics? I would especially like to see the placement of the hammer. Also, have you kept the extinguisher below the seat?
