Hello All,

My City ZX has minor dent and some paint undone in the front bumper and the quarter panel (the area just above rear wheels on the sides). This morning I had been to the Honda service center's and the quote for doing these was quite unbelievable. 4.5K for the quarter panel and 3.8K for the front bumper :Shockked:.

What do you guys think? Should I get it done with Honda only (at that price?) or should I look for alternative painting shops? Do any of you know a good place in Bangalore? If done outside, are there chances that some color difference will show up after a few weeks/months? (I have seen some cars with a slightly different door or bumper color and possibly they are due to this?)

Waiting for your suggestions!

PS: Mods, I hope this is the right section for this thread. If not, please move it.

From my experience, there will be a slight colour difference anyway when you repaint, because the original paint on the rest of the car would have faded slightly compared to the newly painted portion. After some time this difference reduces as the new paint fades to match the old.

Colour matching is done to a pretty reasonable level these days. Honda will have the exact colour code whereas a 3rd party will have to try his hand. Yes, if not done properly, it will look bad. I would suggest getting it done by Honda.

You can go so Suresh in Koramangla, he is very famous nowadays and his paint jobs are pretty good, he had repainted my whole car and have seena lot of touch ups by him including cars like merc E Class, landcruisers. Now, a Merc owner will not give his car to him unless this dude knew what he is doing. He is quite reasonable too.

@Blueraven, where exactly is Suresh located in Kmgla? Shop name? Must keep this for future reference....does he do body tinkering too?

I would disagree with both of you here. If you go to a good bodyshop there will be NO difference in the repainted & the original parts. I use a shop out here which guarantees a colour match or you get your money back & they're damn good at it.

Trick is to find somebody who specialises in paint jobs primarily as he'll know the tricks to matching a colour better than an all-purpose workshop.

EL - Manufacturer colour codes are available very easily and most good paint shops have them since they use the same paints as the manufacturer. (Dupont, Standox etc.)

I dont doubt that the body shop / service center guys use the exact colour or shade as the original paint. What I dont understand is how they are able to 'age' the newly painted portion till it matches with the original (slightly faded) paint. Do they use some heat treatment or something?

Well there is always slight difference after a fresh paintjob, wherever you get it done, what the painters make up with is a full car polish , that way the finish looks even.

Thanks a lot guys, for all your inputs and suggestions.

@Blueraven, thanks for that contact number too. I will get in touch with Suresh.

@Blueraven, btw, which of your cars was repainted? I saw 3 of them in your gallery.

I also need to get some painting work for my car. If some body goes there or get his address details, please post it here. As well as your feedbacks.

The costs that the A.S.S's quote for minor jobs doesnt make sense. If it is a major job, esp one involving a claim I would go for the A.S.S. The people in the business should use pretty much similar techniques for matching etc. Just that most non-A.S.S people wouldnt have access to a paint shop, and that's where the difference lies.

Most of my minor tinkering / painting, teflon / polishing, interior cleaning etc I get it done through one guy in Adugodi.
