Modifications for Gypsy King - Does the sequence of modifications matter?

Friends,
I have decided on doing some performance mods on my 1.3L-MPFI Gypsy King, which I use primarily for off-roading & some city driving

Does the sequence of mods even matter? which modifications should one start with?

This is what I have in mind as the sequence.

1. Custom Air Filter & Intake
2. Headers & FFE
3. Adding a stand-alone ECU

What do you say friends? Am i on the right track?

Since you plan to off-road, dont go in for a Cold air intake. The stock replacement filter will be more practical.

A stand-alone will be pointless on a Gypsy, since it will never be too fast anyways. I suggest you beef up its off-road equipment rather than waste time on performance modifications.

From experience, I can tell you this : Focus on the reliability of your 4x4...not outright performance.

try adding foam type air filter like pipercross than cotton gauge filters like K&N . the sequence you mentioned is fine.

Hey GTO,

Thanks for the inputs. Few Queries

Will a high flow air filter + custom intake not increase the torque and hence have a +ve impact on off-road capabilities?

Can't a stand-alone ECU be mapped/tuned in a way such that it improves the low end torque and not the out right speed/acceleration etc

Fully agree. Do you have some other suggestions in mind for reliability? I am getting the sump guard, drive train/diff protection done.

Do you think that Headers + FFE mods are fine for off-road scenario?

you can use a standalone ecu, if one knows how to tune it to get low end torque, or do you want some thing to do both go fast on road and do off rosding.....as for the air filter, go in for something that it won't suck in water or too much dust when off road..... you can try and get some mods on the suspension, so it works on and off raod...

Baleno is a Front Wheel Drive car and the Gypsy is a Rear wheel drive car. The engine swap is not possible.

Off-topic but some info -> a FWD to RWD conversion is possible.

It's neither a simple, nor a cost-effective process, but it can be done.

eg. Jay Leno's Oldsmobile Toronado which was converted from FWD to RWD.

It is possible and not with a great deal of difficulty either. The same esteem engine drives the front wheels of the esteem and the rear on the king. Its the gearbox that matters.

The order of the mods u've chosen is corrects, but as GTO says, if u ant to go off road, a CAI may not be such a great idea, since u could suck up water or something.

What if the CAI is in the form of a snorkel? Is sucking water the ONLY reason for not recommending a CAI or is there something else also? From a sheer performance point of view, wouldn't CAI increase the performance?

@khan_sultan: an air snorkel for the CAI is a very good idea..it ll also add up to the aesthetic value of the ride..and if you are able to get some sourcing information on the snorkel, then please let me know too(because im also looking for one).

the snorkel will have to be custom fabricated. I doubt if one can get it off the shelf.

The air intake of some LCV's e.g. eicher can be used as parts to fabricate a snorkel.
