I use Amway's See Spray liquid glass cleaner which is very good in cleaning any glass surface. No film formation on the windshield that makes it a boon at night driving.

Colin Here, cheapest and Safest.

I use Amway car wash for my car and usually put 1/2 cap in the washer tank and top it up with water. Once my driver had added liquid dettol soap (yellow) in the washer tank, the windscreen aside, my white swift had got spotted all over the roof which could easily have been confused for jaundice. :)

I use ford windshield washer fluid. I think its from waxoyl, I'm not sure as I have really not noticed. I just know that it does the work better than a soap or shampoo.

And for those who don't find a need for a washer fluid; on long drives, not only during monsoons, on summers too, your windshield gets accumulated with minute carbon/diesel particles from heavy vehicles on the highway. Well, these don't obstruct your visibility, but then, a slight drizzle will make your screen all messed up.
Even if you use your wipers you don't get clear visibility as the oiliness in the screen decrease the wiper blades efficiency, actually if you put on your wipers it gets worse.
In these situations you need a good wiper washer fluid to do the job.

And the benefit I found from using the Ford windshield washer fluid, than normal shampoo is that after spraying shampoo, the remains on my car body tend to collect more dust than a windshield washer fluid. Like, your car tends to seem more dirty(actually really dirty). The cleaning properties seem to be the same.

One of the best if not the absolute best is Sonax, also used at Shell petrol stations and infact that is where I discovered it. Till then I was using 3M, Eagle One, Maruti's GA, Waxpol's and sometimes a hair conditioner sachet or plain tap water all depending on need and availability.

Noticed that whenever I got the washer fluid topped up at Shell Airoli the cleaning seemed better and the wiper action was smoother. The Judder on the return stroke that is there with Syndicate wipers (OE on my Swift Zxi) would go away/reduce drastically. The best effect was that it would very effectively clean out the oily grime +soot deposit that the windscreen would pick up on my runs on the Nasik and Silvassa highways and their approach roads. The effects are more evident at night as in the absence of these oily deposits one has better visibility since the oncoming light scatter is well contained. Sonax also cuts better through dried up bird droppings and the tree/fruit sap is also comparatively easier to remove.

Over the 2 & a half pages I have read members using Pril, Colin, Shampoo etc etc. I would just like to share with all of you that detergents, shampoos and household glass cleaners contain Sulphates which depending on the dilution, frequency and timeline of usage will harm your glass as well as shorten the wiper rubber life.

Hair conditioners though not the best thing to use do not have sulphates and may be used like half a sachet in one tank full but other wise it is best to use an automotive glass cleaner fluid or normal tap water.

Before I close, as far as possible do not wipe the glass surfaces with the same wash cloth that is used to clean up the vehicles body panels. It may not be always possible to use a newspaper but do invest in a separate cloth for the glass surfaces including the head and tail lights. Takes an extra 5 minutes to switch cloths but the result is a glare free drive at night.

+1 to Sonax , i agree with you on the return stroke Judder. I have been using sonax from the day my wind-washer fluid emptied out.

+1 to Khoj for this point

Infact I always keep couple of newspapares & extra cloth in my car, while going outstation.

Paper is needed to clean the bird-poop from the glass, as the cloth will get dirty by cleaning the poop.

What is the wind shield fluid present in new cars from Maruti?
I really like the cleaning ability of the wind shield fluid in my new DZire.
I want to replace the fluid of my other cars to this same fluid.

Maruti also sells their own brand windshield washer fluid concentrate. It's a 50 ml sachet of liquid that has to be diluted in 2 litres of water.

I use Sonax Clearview 1:100 concentrate. It works great - the screen gets very clean, no streaks and the wiper doesn't judder. I keep a 2 litre bottle full of pre-mixed fluid in the car to top up whenever I need it. This helps avoid guessing how much fluid to pour into a washer fluid tank of unknown capacity.

Btw, Snapdeal is currently selling it a a great discount. See:
http://www.snapdeal.com/product/sona...78683?pos=8;16

I also use the Sonax gloss concentrate shampoo and I'm very happy with it. It looks like most Sonax products are great and relatively VFM.

I use 3M's car wash solution mostly. Just a capful or two in the reservoir is enough. I have also used shower gel in small quantities in the reservoir and it does the job very well :D

It is a 15 rupee sachet that is used by the service centers to top up the washer fluid. Should be diluted with water and filled into the tank. Yes it does the job well. The windshield also gets a water repellant effect.

Me too. I use the Ford washer, Rs 60 sachet, even on my Scorpio. Works like a charm. The Mahindra windshield washer does not work at all, can't take off most grime and leaves behind swipe marks.

The Ford Windshield washer, blue in colour, is really good.

Johnson's baby shampoo (no effect on paint/rubber as its very mild) diluted to a large extent and water. 'Nuff said. Does the job perfectly:)

Does it have the ability to remove oil film and grime? I don't think so

It has the ability to moisturise the windshield :D

Guess it will make things worse than just cleaning the glass since IIRC it contains some moisturising oils.
