Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) to compete at Shell Eco Marathon, 2014

Students from the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) of Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) have created a Formula Racing Car - the MRV3 - with a mileage of 123 km/liter. This diesel car will compete at the Shell Eco Marathon to be held in Manila, Philippines on February 6, 2014.

The MRV3 car utilizes 4 hydraulic disc brakes using Bosch TMC and a Taylor steering system. The chassis can bear a load of 500 kg. The body of the car is made of fiber glass and has hollow circular pipes to reduce weight & improve strength. This light weight vehicle is equipped with a driver fitness tester, which doesn't allow a person to drive under the influence of alcohol. Weighing only 180 kgs, it has a single cylinder diesel motor of 269cc displacement, 3.7 horses and a CVT transmission.

This is Manav Rachna’s 3rd foray at the Shell Eco Marathon. Petrol was the fuel of choice in initial years, but this time, a diesel engine has been used.

The Shell Eco Marathon is a unique competition that challenges students to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. At three events around the world, hundreds of teams compete to travel the farthest distance on the least amount of energy.

Re: Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) to compete at Shell Eco Marathon, 20

Congrats to the team of Manav Rachna Institute. This reflects the budding talent of students from an Indian university and they deserve to be encouraged and supported with their ongoing projects. They have proved themselves to be true automotive enthusiasts.

The faculty and management deserves a big thank for encouraging students in allowing them to explore their potential. You get to see such news only when the students are asked to explore possibilities, come out with ideas and their potential is channelized in the right direction.

Re: Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) to compete at Shell Eco Marathon, 20

That is great news and kudos to team of Manav Rachna for building this highly efficient car for Shell Eco Marathon.

For some design consideration: why not they made it aerodynamic to reduce the drag and it would have resulted in more mileage? I may be wrong but I am just asking question as per basic Physics principle. Any thoughts?

Is the chosen diesel engine will be noisy & vibrating? Anybody put light on choice of engine and why they choose it?
