Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) to compete at Shell Eco Marathon, 2014 Students from the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) of Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) have created a Formula Racing Car - the MRV3 - with a mileage of 123 km/liter. This diesel car will compete at the Shell Eco Marathon to be held in Manila, Philippines on February 6, 2014.
The MRV3 car utilizes 4 hydraulic disc brakes using Bosch TMC and a Taylor steering system. The chassis can bear a load of 500 kg. The body of the car is made of fiber glass and has hollow circular pipes to reduce weight & improve strength. This light weight vehicle is equipped with a driver fitness tester, which doesn't allow a person to drive under the influence of alcohol. Weighing only 180 kgs, it has a single cylinder diesel motor of 269cc displacement, 3.7 horses and a CVT transmission.
This is Manav Rachna’s 3rd foray at the Shell Eco Marathon. Petrol was the fuel of choice in initial years, but this time, a diesel engine has been used.
The Shell Eco Marathon is a unique competition that challenges students to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. At three events around the world, hundreds of teams compete to travel the farthest distance on the least amount of energy. |
