Big Shot Motors - New entrants into Indian ATV Segment

This question has always been at the top of my mind "Are ATV's street legal in India?". This question always popped up, whenever I saw an ATV running on the roads of Hyderabad. Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Toli Chowki & Old City, yes I said Old City has hoardes of ATV's plying on the roads. Each time, I see them I ask myself "Are they street legal?" I guess they should be, given by the fact that a new entrant into Indian ATV Segment is opening its shop in Hyderabad.

Enroute to Gachibowli to meet someone, I saw from corner of my eye a showroom "Big Shot Motors" and the vehicles in it. A couple of seconds later, I was inside the showroom, speaking to the owner of that showroom.

Big Shot Motors is launching 110CC, 150CC, 250CC versions of City Cruiser Variant of ATV and 100cc, 150cc & 250cc versions of Off-Roading Variant of ATV’s.

I do not go by what they have to say, as I expect an exaggerated figure always. He mentioned about 35 vehicles being booked and ready for delivery on the day of inauguration. I would not doubt him, but am a bit skeptical about it.

This is how much, these ATV's would cost to own one of these.
100cc of the Off-Roader is priced at Rs. 97000/- inc. all taxes.
250cc of the Off-Roader is priced at Rs. 1.8 lacs inc. all taxes

110cc of the City Cruiser is priced at Rs. 1.1 lacs inc. all taxes
150cc of the City Cruiser is priced at Rs. 1.4 lacs inc. all taxes
250cc of the City Cruiser is priced at Rs. 2.4 lacs inc. all taxes

Been given to understand that more variants are yet to arrive and would be launched soon.

I am still confused; would it be a good buy? Are they street legal? Big Shot Motors sounds to be an Indian arm of Chinese ATV Manufacturer.

All question aside, liked the Alloys on the 250CC City Cruiser Model.

Did not get a good angle to capture the Big Shot Motors 150cc off Roader ATV and the 250cc version of the Off Roader is yet to arrive at the showroom.

The City Cruiser has tyres that are way too low-pro for any rough use. Thanks for sharing BTW

Here are two threads on the other ATV brand in India

Polaris

Polaris 6x6 riden

I too said him about the same thing that the tyres have a very low profile and how would they perform on the indian roads, especially the illfated roads, ridden with loads of bumpers and pot holes. I loved the Off-Roader version of the ATV, where as the City Cruiser seems to be insipred by T-Rex.

Yeah! Saw a number of Polaris in Hyderabad. These guys reach out to a Motor Garage at Mehdipatnam for repair works, who happens to be famous for repairing Super Bikes.

Re: Big Shot Motors - New entrants into Indian ATV Segment

While I welcome a new ATV in our country, this looks more of form over function. The large Alloy wheels and low profile tires are not the stuff for 'All Terrain' or real off-road work. Besides, on the Jap ATVs that I have ridden so far, the throttle on all of them is thru a thumb lever, wheras on this one its like a motorbike which you twist with your palm...I really dont know if that is a better or worse thing.

BTW, any idea what engine they are using? If by chance its the cheap chinese engines, well, here in the gulf many of them go kaput after a year, whereas the jap ATVs cost 2-3 times more but they take a lot of abuse and last a long time.

The Off-Roaders have a Thumb Lever, where as the City Cruisers have a normal bike like accelerator. I wish I could have captured the Off-Roaders properly. The lack of space was the reason, why could not capture better pictures as they were still in the process of finishing the Showroom.

I really have no idea about the engine but I did mention in my first post "Big Shot Motors sounds to be an Indian arm of Chinese ATV Manufacturer". I guess, these are Cheap Chinese Models, launched in India.

According to this article, ATVs cannot be registered with an RTO and do not require a driving license:

Re: Big Shot Motors - New entrants into Indian ATV Segment

@Nikhil To answer your first question, nope ATV's are not road legal, unless the company has gone the whole nine-yards with ARAI, RTO etc etc. Now this used to be the case, I hope it has changed in the recent past. I remember a place in Chikmagalur was selling ATV's they were directly imported from China, the owner mentioned that a few estates had purchased them to drive/ride inside the estates which are pretty big and the roads are non-existence.

Now coming to Big Shot the ATV's look like they are designed by some cheap FX/Creature designer...with Spiderman thrown in. There are tons of Chinese companies who manufacture these, search Alibaba and see what I am talking about.

C'mon look at those twin exhausts and the fake spider web...

The wheels on the yellow Quad look amazing! Maybe the next time you are there, ask him what pcd those wheels were? and if he was thinking of importing just wheels too!!

Re: Big Shot Motors - New entrants into Indian ATV Segment

Polaris still sells ATV's in India. They are recreational vehicles and i doubt if they are street legal. Search for Harrison or Funty on TBHP, another importer of chinese ATV's.

Re: Big Shot Motors - New entrants into Indian ATV Segment

Can any of these actually considered to be ATV's?.Don't get me wrong,I'm glad that they took the initiative.IMO its looks quite all show and no go category sortof thing.Just my opinion.

As for if its a good buy.Its not street legal so I doubt one might use it for actually going around in the city.It looks quite plasticy and toyish.
