40+ Yamaha R15 V2.0s burnt to a crisp at MMSC pits!

Stumbled upon this on Facebook, I am surprised how no one knew about this.

As per the Source, this is what happened,
Quote:
Recently at Wallace Sports Research & Foundation (WSR) Pits at Madras Motor Sports Track (MMST), Irrungattukottai, Chennai 40+ brand new Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 was gutted in a major fire.

It is surprising to know as none of the automobile blog or social media pages have any update on this incidence. Though we don’t have any further details or official statement from Yamaha about the unfortunate incident, a report is yet to be published highlighting the real cause of the fire.

This 40+ brand new bikes were bought by Yamaha for the upcoming third edition of the Riding Clinic in association with Yamaha Motor Co., Japan and Madras Motor Sports Club, which is to be held in between May 8th -11th, 2012. From the images, it is evident that the motorcycles have been churn into ashes and loss of property could be to the tune of lakhs.

40+ lakhs to be precise

This is so sad. Could it be due to some short circuit leading to a major fire ball in the heat of chennai?

Looks like fake news to me!
These don't seem to have burnt down! You can seem some after market pipes and lying on the ground in the bottom left corner of the pic. what happened to the fairing/seats/ headlights etc. They seem to have been removed rather than burnt to ashed.

I am calling fake on this !

Ahem. Fairing and headlights are made up of plastic. Seats are made up of foam, and am sorry to say that all these materials are combustible.

Hey Rash, it really happened. I went to the track a couple of days after it happened. It was a nasty sight. They were all kitted out with the Dagrex performance parts. From what I heard, it was way more than 40 bikes. Don't know what caused it though.

OMG these were dagrex kitted bikes!!

RIP dear Yamahas. But 40+ bikes brought in at a time is all too risky i think. Hope they were insured.

Re: 40+ Yamaha R15 V2.0s burnt to a crisp at MMSC pits!

Read it on FB, a friend had his R15 V2.0 gutted in this fire. The bike had gone for some insurance claim and got burnt along with these bikes, sad news but its not fake.

Pity there was no fire fighting equipment or anything there which could have atleast saved a few bikes - beautiful bikes burnt to ashes

Granted, they burnt away completely! So did the alloy wheels?
Also the first two bikes on the lower right corner look like some underbones, were these imported too for the event?

Well, I hope it isn't true! Is this picture of the same location where they caught fire? Or were they bought here later?

No idea about that. Alloy wheels should remain, not able to identify them in this pic, I can see some disc brakes, also wonder where the forks have gone!

Re: 40+ Yamaha R15 V2.0s burnt to a crisp at MMSC pits!

It is truly sad to see the results of a fire on these nice motorcycles.

As for the metal rims on the bikes, consider this:

Aluminum alloys melt at a little less than 1200 degrees F. (649 degrees C.)

Many fires are much hotter than this.

If the wheels were made of magnesium alloys not only will they melt at temperatures below 1200 degrees F. (649 degrees C.) but they will ignite with the resulting flame creating temperatures well in excess of 4000 degrees F. (2204 degrees C.).

Yamaha riding clinic completes third lap | | | The New Indian Express

Looks the clinic was held after all! No mention of any fires.
