After service, part comes loose. Please help?

I gave my 8 year old TVS Victor for service a few days ago. Today, while riding I noticed a jingle like sound coming from the rear and that immediately caught my attention. My bike is very well maintained and there are no noises coming from anywhere except the engine and the exhaust.

When I stopped, I noticed this screw half loose, as the source of the noise.

After service, part comes loose. Please help?-img_2409.jpg

Now, I'm not very sure what this part is and how it comes into the picture with the tire and chain. I'm assuming it's used to adjust chain slackness. I tightened it with tools from my tool kit. I also noticed that the screw on the other side wasn't fully tightened either.

My questions are:

- What is this part, and what is it's role?
- What are the consequences of a loose screw on performance and safety?

I've another query about the battery. I recently installed (2 months) a new battery on my machine and noticed today that it has rust on the terminals already.

What can I do to prevent it from rusting further? I wouldn't want the terminal coming off loose due to rust while the battery still has life in it (happened to my previous battery).

Loose chain results in loss of power and wearing of sprocket tooth. Not to mention the irritating noise which emanates from it.
Did u check the chain for slackness before tightening the screw with your tool kit? Both screws have to tightened symmetrically. They may also have something to do with wheel alignment but i would need more experienced members on the forum to confirm this.

Smear some grease on the battery terminals, That should do just fine.

hellmet , you are under massive brake failure ALERT !

1.The brake rod nut is almost at the end , get it fixed ASAP .
2. Lock the axle rod with that nut . Take it any local shop and he can do it .
3.Don't apply grease , apply Vaseline to the battery contacts .

Don't use grease or oil. Apply petroleum jelly to the battery terminals.

Instead of riding 15km roundtrip to the service center and waste my time and energy, I rode 100m and let my local mechanic handle it. He adjusted it real quick and also loosened the chain a bit which was overtightened by the service center. Paid 10rs. Saved time and energy. However, my trust in the service center has gone for a toss. I wonder how they missed something like this during service? What if my chain and sprocket took a beating due to the improperly aligned tire?

Will purchase petroleum jelly for the battery terminals. Thank you!
