The
Vespa 946 was showcased at the Auto Expo.
- 946 is just a name, it is powered by a 125cc engine producing 11.4 BHP @ 8750 RPM & 9.6 Nm @ 7750 RPM.
- CVT transmission.
- Monocoque body.
- Front & rear discs, also equipped with ABS.
- ASR traction control
- 8.45 litres of fuel tank capacity.
Funky looking handle bar.
Front end is not significantly different from the Vespa LX 125 sold in India, but one can point out the differences easily if placed side-by-side.
Headlamp fairing is not spread to either sides to cover the handlebars, unlike the Vespa LX 125.
Closer look at the handlebar. Notice the small screen for a digital speedo console.
When you look at the 946 from the side, it is hard to miss the unique seat design.
Closer look at the seat. Under seat storage? Gone for a toss?
Tail tapers nicely to the end.
Tail lamp is flushed in the rear panel.
Rubber strips to provide some grip.
Grey rim with a silver lip looks good.
The Piaggio Liberty was also showcased at the Auto Expo.
- The press release says: "The Liberty could open yet another revolutionary segment in the Indian scooter market." Hence, one cannot deny the possibility of this making it to Indian shores.
- Powered by a 125cc engine with EFI producing 10.2 BHP @ 7500 RPM & 10.4 Nm @ 6000 RPM.
- CVT transmission
- Front & rear disc brakes.
- Poor 6.5 litre fuel tank capacity.
Not really a looker.
Looks like a higher seating position than the Vespa.
Larger wheels than the punny scooter wheels.
A kitted up Liberty.
One word, BASIC.
Telescopic front suspension
Thread moved out from Assembly Line section!
The Vespa 946 is truly beautiful.
Any one has an idea of what the pricing will be.
My guess is it will be around 150k +
OT : was it deliberate or it just happened? pic of the Piaggio NT3 concept's seating arrangement of one up front and 2 at the rear, followed by piaggio ape CNG's pic (with similar seating)?? :P

It just happened buddy.
I didn't even think about it before. And now, lol:
The NT3 concept is really nice. Seems like a plush version of our very own auto rikshaw (at least in terms of seating format).
Somehow the square headlights of the Vespa S does not gel with the lines of the scooter and mars the cuteness overall.
I have this question regarding Moto Guzzi's engine layouts. Why are they that way?
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. has launched the Vespa S in India at a price of Rs. 75,424 (Ex-showroom Delhi).

Ridiculous pricing by Vespa. Older model, whatever they call it, was a big flop, mainly due to its high pricing. Now this is also very very costly compared to other scooters like Activa, Access, Wego etc. In Pune this will cost above 85 K i guess whereas others are around 60 K. Who will buy this then? I am surprised that companies don't learn from their own mistakes.
Piaggio seems to be clear that they want to be seen as a premium luxury scooter in 70-90k band. Now they have to prove they are giving enough value, quality & service too at that price point. I am planning to buy one out of nostalgia (had one 20 yrs ago) & I really dont like the Activa or any other similar scooter.
Honda should bring in the PCX 125 or 150 high-end scooter; Yamaha has some great high-end scooters too. I am sure there is market for these in the 75-100K band.

Simple. Its an engine in a "VEE" configuration i.e it has two cylinders, in a "V" shape.

Launched at last. I've been seeing this model for over a week now, at the Poona dealership. A refreshing change, more than enough to make me curse myself, for buying the VX125, just a month before the S was launched.
Cheers!
