2014 Yamaha FZ caught Testing in Greater Noida

Overdrive-India have uploaded first spy images of Yamaha FZ testing on Greater Noida Expressway. Here are the pics:

They are speculating that the bike needn't be a 250cc bike, but, a rebored 170cc engine which might make around 17PS of power & more torque than the current FZ.

More details here:

chee chee.....yamaha and its downgraded thinking.
After someone has fallen to their death they offer the dead man a parachute.

They're quite undermining the market by giving out 150cc commuters and pimped out 150cc wannabe sportsbikes.
Damn are they good MILKERS!

Damn! They made a handsome motorcycle look hideous
Why are they sticking on to 150-170cc when the competition moved on to 200 cc and above. The chaps at Yamaha design must be smoking weeds. What is with that Silencer?

Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ caught Testing in Greater Noida

Yamaha totally ruined the timeless design of FZ. You can't perfect what's already perfect. The only thing FZ needed was a little more power. That's all. Its a neither here nor there design. What were they thinking when they put that muffler there. The protruding tail lamp is pure ugly.

I think, Yamaha has heard the complaints and addressed them in the newer variant of the FZ. The retail version with all the graphics, will definitely look amazing. The only thing, i did not like is that chrome silencer. The matte finish looks amazing on the current FZ. I am excited to see the newer FZ and the innovations it brings over the older variant.

ODI have uploaded more pics of the bke in another report of theirs. Here is the link to the same:

They are still claiming the engine to be a 170cc 17bhp mill. So I feel many bikers would be happy with the upgrade in power & displacement.

Wow, Yamaha is doing what Bajaj did ages ago with their Pulsar upgrades (180-200-220). This is sacrilegious and the person who designed this must be sacked. When the chassis and rest of setup can easily handle more power, why are they not plonking in a 250 CC Twin Cylinder setup?

RIP Yamaha!!!

In our price-sensitive market 250cc twin in FZ, may not be a viable option. Also FZ is a commuter bike and at the max, its price can be 90k and anything more would dissolve the product. Clearly yamaha's need of the hour is sales volume and its doing whatever it can to their bread & butter product FZ to make it look afresh. And 250cc twin is reserved for its premium bike R25, so using it elsewhere wont give the R25 the credibility/uniqueness it needs.

Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ caught Testing in Greater Noida

The only good thing about this upgrade seems to be a wider pillion seat. Hope it provides more cushioning and hence comfort to the pillion.
I tend to disagree with others on the bigger engine. Current FZ manages around 30-35 Kmpl(as reported by fellow riders), I wonder what an upgrade to 250cc would lead to?
The design should have been left untouched, exclusive dual colours (or stickers) could have been added to differentiate it from current FZ.

Re: 2014 Yamaha FZ caught Testing in Greater Noida

With all the previous face-lifts, its not hard to tell they are going family way. The newer FZs are more mass oriented, with all those fancy stickers (Hero effect ???) , wider pillion seat, chain-guard etc etc

And now this so called upgrade - if that exhaust and the tail lamp cluster was not enough, they put that tyre hugger on that beautiful rear tyre , they have messed with the features which made FZ stand out in the crowd. This is a bike which didn't show signs of ageing and remained gorgeous even among the likes of Duke and P200NS. Why would you mess with something that was already great

In my opinion, Yamaha has totally confused what FZ stood for. This upgrade simply lacks the raw appeal of FZ and that was the USP if i am not wrong. The pricing itself tells it was never meant for the conservative lot, for them they had the simpler and more straight-forward SZ series.

What's up Yamaha, this is so unlike you
