Bajaj Auto has been testing a long line of new products which it plans to introduce in the market in the future. Among them is the new Pulsar based which has been spotted testing in Lonavala recently. The bike, which follows the same design language as the Pulsar 200 NS, is rumoured to be powered by a new 160cc engine.
A report by
Shifting-Gears claims that the new 160 cc, single-cylinder, triple spark unit is likely to produce slightly more power and torque than the 150 cc DTS-i engine of the current model. The report claims that the bike was able to do a speed of 60 kph on inclines with a pillion rider, which indicates that the engine does pack a good punch.
Stopping power is provided by a disc brake at the front and drum at the rear, while suspension duties are taken care of by a telescopic fork and monoshock at the front and rear respectively. Other features include an underbelly exhaust, full-sizd rear mud guard, digital and analogue instrumentation, LED tail lamp and a kick-starter The bike has a new fuel filler car and alloy wheels with the rear one wearing a 100/90/17 MRF Zapper tyres.

I guess this is Bajaj's answer to the Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha fz16 v2.
Using the 200 NS platform, twin spark's a good carry forward. Keeping it simple with air cooling. And as for that 100/90 rear, it might handle well, but aesthetically it just can't gel with that beautifully sculpted tank and overall bulbous looks. It has to come with 120 or better yet standard 130.
All good news. Again a thumbs up for bajaj.
But sad part, which cannot be denied now, is, that the countdown has begun for current generation to be phased out.
About time. It has been more than a decade since the Pulsars broke cover, infact in 2004, the V2 variant came in IIRC.
But now, the Pulsar (150 especially) have become too long in the tooth, especially with the cheater RTR-160 in the market. And sales too has dipped. The other 150's too had their changed avatars.
I still, can't understand the technology of 3 plugs.

Multiple spark plugs gives your engine less chance of a misfire or no fire on any given cylinder.
I can understand this technology on a larger engine or for Aircraft engine or Marine use. But what good is 3 spark plugs on a puny 160CC engine? Cant a single nice big spark do the job of 3 plugs?
stupid:
I could see RPM LIMIT indicator in the instrument cluster. Is it first time application from Bajaj or already available in other pulsar platforms (I don't have idea about 200NS) Is that pre-programmed for certain rpm or is it programmable?
135, 150, 160, 180, 200, 220. Few years down the line, we will have a Pulsar at every 5cc interval I guess :)
Overall, this is nothing more than a downsized 200NS IMO.

It is already available in the 200NS.

The older Pulsars also have it. In my '12 P180, the low fuel indicator (red light in tacho console) doubles up as the RPM limit indicator and flashes constantly on redlining the bike.

Ah! The 200NS, till now, managed to stand apart from the rest of the pulsar family! Well, not any more!
So when is the 220NS and 135NS coming?
Aha, Bajaj going Naked with all its variants !! :uncontrol
I am waiting for a 100 cc Naked.

True that. Could be an awesome 220 replacement. All good qualities of 220 along with better engine, brakes and chassis! And looks better than the outgoing 220!
