Bajaj Auto's second plant coming up in Chakan

Bajaj Auto has revealed that it is in the process of setting up a second plant in Chakan, near Pune. The new plant will have a monthly capacity of 50,000 units. However, while the work on the plant is expected in 2016 there is no timeline given for the plant to commence operations. The company has already acquired the land required for setting up the new unit.

Bajaj claims that new plant is being set up to cope with the growing demand for its premium products. It believes that its sales will grow at a rate of 20% in this financial year and over the next 12-18 months, the current plant will be unable to supply enough vehicles to meet the demand.

Bajaj expects to sell about 1.7 lakh and 1.8 lakh two-wheelers in the domestic market in April and May 2015 respectively. Next year, it expects the monthly average to go up to 2 lakh units. Coming to exports, the company expects to move 1.4-1.5 lakh units in April 2015 and 1.7-1.8 lakh units in May. It plans to export 20 lakh motorcycles by the end of the current fiscal. Last year the company exported 18 lakh units.
