Help needed from Bike Gurus ...

Recently the front wheel bearing of my bike was replaced at
service by Kalyani-Bajaj (Mekhri circle). I'm noticing a weird
problem with the front wheel now. When cold, there is no
apparent problem. However, after a few kms ride, the wheel
seems to stick, -- some screeching noise comes when I
manually rotate the wheel after stopping, and the rotation is
not as free as when cold (during ride it is diffcult to tell if
there is some problem) !

At Kalyani-Bajaj I was told there's nothing to worry, -- some
rubber bushing was coming in contact, and just needed
lubrication ! However, the problem persists. So I need to go
back to get it really fixed. But this time I'd like to go with
some basic clue to the possible problem(s). I can't guess it
myself, so I need help from bike gurus at TBHP. This was my
first service at Kalyani -Bajaj, and I got a feeling that in general,
the mechanics there are too inexperienced and/or incompetent.
Thanks in advance for your help.

i m no guru, but sounds like your brake pads are rubbing against the disc.

check if the brake pads and disc assembly have been mounted properly.

Thanks. I'd ask for this check-up. But why there should be any difference between
when the bike is cold, and right after it has run several kms ?

Well when you start hearing the rubbing noise, drive for a while(don't use the front brakes at all). Stop, and check for the disc heating up.

If it does, it's the disc brake.

Check for any markes on the tyre too.

Samy

Hi Meerkat,
I have just come out of a problem fix at the same place.
Dont waste your time with the supervisors and mechanics, they just want to push you through, hoping the problem gets fixed somehow or goes away. The supervisor there has no concept on what to focus on.
Go to the works manager (I think Mr Naik) and sit with him, preferable not in the morning and evening (when the rush is there).
My take is that maybe the bearing has not been seated properly, so after a little distance it heats up abnormally and therefore the increased friction.

Thanks

Thanks for your help, guys.
Hi Vicki, thanks for your valuable tip. I'll try to meet with Mr. Naik to get the
problem resolved.
Cheers.
