Rumour: Honda could launch CB400F in India

Honda is gearing up to enter the 400cc motorcycle segment in India. It is rumoured to have patented the design of the CB400F in the country. The bike is expected to be launched within the next 12 months.

The CB400F is a naked sports bike. It is powered by a 399cc, parallel twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, water-cooled engine that puts out 45 BHP @ 9,500 rpm and 37 Nm of torque @ 7,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The engine has an electronic fuel injection system and a self start. Stopping power comes from a 320 mm and a 240 mm petal disc brake at the front and rear respectively. The bike has a 41 mm telescopic fork front suspension at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and weighs 192 kg.

The 400cc segment is growing fast. It already has the KTM Duke 390 and Bajaj Auto is planning to introduce the CS400 as well. Royal Enfield is also expected to enter the segment with the 410cc Himalayan.

If true, excellent choice for beginner performance riders. It should include ABS at least as optional.

A CBR version which sits below the now confirmed CBR650F will give a nice family tree for riders to grow up and upgrade within the Honda line. Exciting times for Indian riders. Similar to the time that Hero Honda CBZ was launched. But there will be no need for a CBR300 then unless they stop the CBR250.

Good Scoop. Will definitely sell well if launched at the price point as quoted in the source (2.4 to 2.6 OTR). Will definitely consider this if my CBR650 fund has issues (fingers crossed)

But, Say, Honda... How about the CB400 Super Four as well? That is an altogether different motorcycle with a screaming Inline-four and Vtec.

Now, that's a bike that will make a killing if launched in India. I will gladly sell my Ninja and get that if it launches here.

2.4 to 2.6 OTR for a twin cylinder Honda 400cc??!! It's not a KTM Bajaj product, friend.

Besides, they have just filed the patent. Product will take a long long time, and Hond 650cc is much closer to reality than this 400cc one.

Power of Dreams as Honda says!!! Not happening with a 400cc Honda. Lets be realistic when Ninja 300 is 4L OTR.

Naked sports bike!! Cursed are all the motorcycle tourers in this country!! No good product is offered in mid ranged touring motorcycle; all of them start at nothing less than 10 Lakhs & all of them are the litre class. Sad part? Even the Japanese!

Re: Rumour: Honda could launch CB400F in India

The rumor may be true or not true but there is no way the motorcycle would be a Honda CB400F.

Having owned and ridden a CB400F for a number of years, I know that particular model is powered by a OHC, aircooled, in-line 4 cylinder engine with a 6 speed transmission and a 4 into 1 exhaust.
The "F" in the model nomenclature signifies the 4 cylinder design.

The CB400F was a factory made Cafe Racer produced from 1975 thru 1977.

The engine was red-lined at 11,500 rpm and riding it was rather interesting.
From an idle speed up to 6000 rpm it was a very well mannered machine with good acceleration for dealing with the autos on city streets.
At 6,000 rpm its nature changed.
It's true breeding appeared and often, in lower gears the front wheel became airborne as it rapidly climbed to its 11,500 rpm redline.

The sound of 4 cylinders above 9,000 rpm were reminiscent of the sound of a F-1 car and it would literally cause the hair on the back of my neck to rise as I slammed thru the gears.
Truly an amazing machine.

For those interested, here is a link to a web site that describes the 400F

There are two CB400Fs being discussed here:
  • The one you are describing is the famous CB400F/Super Four powered by a intoxicating inline-4 which is mostly sold mainly in JDM + a few other markets. I've seen a few of these whizz past in Singapore and man do they sound good! A lot of us here will buy the bike with our eyes closed if they do launch it here. But Honda will never bring this bike here (too much fun?)
  • The other (and relatively boring) bike is the err... CB400F which is a downsized version of the CB500F with a parallel twin.
http://blog.motorcycle.com/2013/03/1...00x-for-japan/ Other than being a namesake, these bikes dont have anything in common.
This bike probably makes sense to Honda with the 400cc segment getting more players in addition to the Duke/RC 390 (and their upcoming Bajaj cousins)

Re: Rumour: Honda could launch CB400F in India

The motorcycle in pics looks promising only if Honda prices it correctly else it might go the Suzuki Inazuma way. Nevertheless this is a 400cc parallel twin motor that might bump up the price above 3.5 lakhs. But this is just a speculation, I wont be surprised if Honda launches this motorcycle here in India. The only thing that needs to be watched is for how much will they offer it here in India?
