2016 Hero Splendor Pro spied without camouflage

Hero MotoCorp is readying the 2016 Splendor Pro for launch. The commuter motorcycle gets revised styling and could also get a Hero engine in place of the old Honda unit.

Images indicate that the Splendor Pro gets a redesigned clear lens headlamp with a new cowl and windscreen, clear lens turn indicators, a redesigned fuel tank, redesigned side and rear panels, new tail lamp and a silver grab rail. The luggage rack at the rear has been dropped. The bike continues to have a telescopic fork front suspension and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Other features include 5-spoke alloy wheels, drum brakes, a saree guard, single contoured seat and a fuel knob with plastic cladding.

The 2016 Splendor Pro is likely to be powered by a new single cylinder, air-cooled engine with a displacement of 100/110cc. At the moment, there is no information on the power and torque that this engine produces.

The bike has a three-pot instrument cluster with silver bezels. It consists of a round analogue speedometer in the centre with an integrated odometer, various indicator lights to the left and a fuel gauge to the right.

Re: 2016 Hero Splendor Pro spied without camouflage

The original Hero Honda Splendor will be fondly remembered. Still remember the TV commercial with the jingle 'Cruise the roads, just ride the clouds on a Splendor'.

The bike demanded were long waiting lists and many of my acquaintances used their 'connections' to jump the queue. And almost everyone wanted the black colour with blue and red stripes. 20 years down the line, especially after splitting with Honda, the changes Hero has been making to the Splendor just goes to show how far they have to go to design even a bare bones 100cc motorcycle properly.

The 'jelly bean' styling (which was made popular at the same time with the debut of the good old Zen) is now gone. The innocence (for lack of a better word) of the design is lost. There is none of the purity or clean nature in the lines anymore. The tail piece and tail lamp looks borrowed straight from the TVS Star series.

No offence to any Justin Bieber fans, but the transformation of the Splendor in the past 20 years is pretty similar to the transformation Bieber has had in the past 10 years. You know the goodness is lost forever.

May be soon, we will see restoration threads for the old Hero Honda Splendors and even prices going up for 'single owner, 1994, first batch, just 3,50,000 km run' examples. Sigh.

<End of rant>

To me it looks like Yamaha Libero / Fazer from side angle and Suzuki Zeus from front angle!

Don't know why Hero bikes never come with any unique feature / technology patents. They always lack excitement. In terms of looks, appeal, technology etc. Always plain Jane styling, boring.

Hero is a true Indian family values company. Like in almost every family, the used items gets passed on to siblings when the elder gets a new one. So does Hero. Every revision they stick parts from a segment higher bike to the lower one. The fairings, the console the panels, grab handles etc. This one is another example. They seem to have lost their bearings after Honda left or it was Honda who was keeping Hero honest.
