I am surprised there isn't a thread on this already. (Couldn't find one. Maybe it exists)

Mahindra seems to be the only Indian company with a high impact product at CES 2016.

Its an electric scooter with a 30 mile range and a detachable battery that can be charged at any socket.

Priced at 3k $.

Seems like it could work in India at the Metro level if priced close to a Vespa. I'm thinking about a speed limited moped used by kids for tuition, sports, college etc. Or just for moving about the city.

Definitely a great idea to make the battery portable if not the bike itself. I believe it is being made in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Mahindra must be sourcing local suppliers out there to make this scooter. If they had to make it in India, there's a good chance it would need a lot of imported components, jacking up the price.

I think Mahindra-Two Wheelers would want to get its conventional models rolling out of showrooms first, before considering something like this for India. This has good potential in the US, but the $3K asking price will have to crash for it to be launched in India. I'm sure Mahindra is working on a low cost version, but we'll have to wait for a while to something of the sort to come over here.
