TVS Apache RTR 200, Victor launched

TVS, the third-largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, has just launched two new motorcycles, the Victor and the Apache RTR 200.
The Victor, TVS' 110cc commuter bike, has received a major facelift and now sports sharper looks. A matte black theme runs through the motorcycle, with the only the fuel tank and panels receiving a splash of colour. The seat gets a leather-type finish, adorned with red leather stitching. There's the addition of new alloy wheels, disc brakes and tubeless tyres as well. Apart from these changes, the Victor has also received mechanical upgrades, with the 109.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine now producing 9.5bhp.
The Apache RTR 200 on the other hand is the manufacturer's top-of-the-line model – its new flagship. Visually more butch, aggressive and hunkered down, the RTR 200 will be powered by a 197.8cc single-cylinder unit that is air- and oil-cooled, and features ram-air induction. At 8,500rpm, the RTR 200’s motor will produce a peak power of 20.2 bhp, propelling the lightweight motorcycle from 0-100kph in 3.9 seconds.
Like the Victor, the RTR 200 too features a matte black theme, with gold-finished front telescopic forks that look smart. The RTR 200 features single rotor, petal type disc brakes on the front and rear and rear lift protection (RLP).
The new Victor will be priced from a competitive Rs 49,490 (drum brake variant) to Rs 51,490 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Apache RTR 200 will cost from Rs 88,990 for the base variant, to Rs 107,000 for the fuel-injection equipped bike, and Rs 1,15,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for an ABS equipped RTR 200, to be available in a few months from now.

lol there ACI goes again, making silly mistakes just in the name of having their limp opinions out there first. I guess the whole unit is not as inclined towards cars and bikes as they ought to to run a automobile publication, or atleast the editorial team isn't. They overlooked the part where the bike accelerates from 0-60kph not 100kph, in 3.9 seconds. Or have they been watching too many youtube videos of cars in foreign countries where the units are mostly in miles per hour :Frustrati
On a more serious note, I don't know why TVS is advertising this 0-60kph timing of 3.9 seconds. It seems like it is the slowest in the market if you consider its competition to be the Duke 200 and Pulsar 200ns. The Pulsar takes 3.6ish seconds and the Duke does it in just 3.2. Either way, 0-60kph timings not being too important especially if they are just off by a few tenths of a second, I am still eagerly waiting to test this bike out as TVS has a way with their chassis :D

OTOH, for the specs offered, I feel the 88,990 ex-Delhi price is pretty decent. Some worthwhile competition in the 200cc naked category. And I can see the bike's shod with PSD. That's good news too!
Although, I'd personally have preferred a more aggressive looking design; this is not commuter category that one has to go with a "please-all" design.
With that high rise clip-on like the Pulsars, I think they have taken away the DNA that ran within the RTR clan! Not sure if this will be exciting as the RTR, but it is made to sell for sure! For a company with such a racing pedigree as TVS, I think I had set the expectations a bit too high.
A lighter bike is a better bike and this one sure is great. 200cc bikes aren't supposed to break speed records and in that sense an almost identical torque as 200NS with lighter weight should make it a better bike in city.
Also, stuff like Pirelli rubber and FI and dual abs makes sure that Apache is the most VFM product right now. Engine is quite refined too as reported by media during the test runs today.

Little more power was expected from the 200cc motor. Face doesn't look too inspiring and seems to have lost the character. I think I liked the first ever RTR's face the most. Specs and equipment are quite good though.

I just saw the post of a possible Yamaha MT-09 launch and with 115 BHP on tap, that bike does a 0-100 km/hr in 3.4 secs.
I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw a 0-100 timing of 3.9 secs for RTR 200 :Shockked:
I don't get the point of Victor launch! First, it looks more like, in fact too identical, the current Star City+ and anything like the first generation Victor. Why should this Victor sell at all is the question, may be not million dollar question, but more like 1-2K dollar question.
First things first, I seem to be the only person to really like the styling! I think it looks better than the NS and the Duke (partly because its a 4 year old design and a common sight everywhere). Draken inspired styling is obvious but the headlight design with the instrument pod above it screams MT09! Seems more proportional too now. Thankfully, they haven't retracted from the RTR DNA and in that yellow, you just cannot mistake it for any bike other than the Apache. Big :thumbs up from me for the styling.
Though low on power and torque compared to the NS and the Duke, I'm sure it'll be peppy in its own right. Handling was always the RTR's forte and I'm sure this one with the PSDs and a better chassis (is it?) will be better than the old one and hopefully in the league of the Duke. ABS and FI are always welcome and the pricing seems to be okay. I hope TVS has sorted the engine vibe issues and improved the quality to justify the price tag.

The fairing looks a wee bit too big (at least in the pics), IMO. A couple of inches shorter (like the current RTR), would have made it better looking.
While the rear looks beefier(better) than before the front loses character. The DRLs look cool on the current-gen Apache. This new headlight makes it look as if it is swapped from a bike of lower segment. Just doesn't gel with the entire bike.
Infact, the Victor's design looks more appealing.

That's something which relies on the forward motion of bike to facilitate better air intake. Ram air intake is mostly seen in aircrafts, The forward motion of the aircraft at high speed facilitate air intake at high pressure.
The F1 cars also have similar intake system, But for a 200cc bike I don't think these things will make any big difference!
Me likes the design !! And RTRs anyday sound better the Pulsars and the likes. I am contemplating buying a bike again, so this definitely is in the list.

The last iteration of Apache was sharp looking, not wannabe "look at me" like this one. Very disappointed!
Absolute beauty!! Makes me want to upgrade from RTR 180. 180 is such a fun bike to ride and this wont be any different. Looks stunning, exudes quality.
As per reviews, this had that torquey low end like the older Apaches. clap:
