Mahindra's new 155cc motorcycle spotted testing

Mahindra seems to be planning to launch a new utilitarian motorcycle, a test mule of which was spotted testing near Pune. Few glances at the spy shots reveal that the bike isn't made to turn your heads and get spotted among the crowd. It has a basic design featuring multi-spoke wheels supported by telescopic suspension in the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear.

On the styling front, the headlights, indicators and dials are quite basic, round-shaped and give the bike a look from the '80s. A noticeable feature on the bike is the rear support frame which would be essential for goods transport. This clearly indicates the kind of market that Mahindra is trying to target which is the rural as well as export markets.

This bike uses a new 155cc engine developed in-house by Mahindra. The engine is likely to produce a healthy 15 BHP and we hope to get some more details in the months to come.

The company is currently relying only on the Centuro in the utilitarian bike segment.

Re: Mahindra's new 155cc motorcycle spotted testing

M&M needs to understand that Rural population still vouch for the Hero(Hero Honda of yore).

To some extent, the shift has been towards the Honda Shines and Yugas.
The bike looks half baked and a speedo console looks straight from the early 80s.

Not even a fuel gauge has been provided.
The 155 cc again may look powerful on paper but the agri population would look at frugality as compared to power.

This may be another miss for M&M in the making.

Agree with Arnabchak. The bike itself looks straight out of the 80's. I'm not even sure if anyone would buy a 155cc bike with such exterior treatment when you have better options available. Looks more like a Bajaj Boxer.

Even if it targets the rural masses at an entry level price point, people may still not buy it, merely because of lower frugality and reliability as compared to its sub 125cc rivals.

I can see only 2 probable customers, i.e., milkman and shopkeeper (mostly rural) who need more power at lower price.
