Honda imports Grom for research and development

Thank you to BHPian CrAzY dRiVeR for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

Honda has imported one unit of the Grom into India for testing, research and development and evaluation.

The Grom is a scooter-bike with a 124.9cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled, fuel-injected petrol engine and a 4-speed transmission.

The vehicle has disc brakes all-round and rides on 12-inch wheels. Suspension duties are carried out by an inverted fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

Earlier this year, Honda launched the Navi in India. The Navi is essentially a Honda Activa, but uses a Grom 125-like body style to make it look more like a motorcycle. The vehicle has received a good response in the country. This could make Honda consider introducing the Grom in India.

Interesting but totally surprised by the disclosed value of the bike, 5,27,291 is steep.
Wonder where they pulled that value from? Random google search results?

That happens to be the declared value of Cost Insurance and Freight for the bike. To stay on the right side of the customs authorities, i believe they would have converted the maximum retail selling price in Japan (about 335,00 yen) and added the freight and insurance values. Except, somebody made a clerical error and instead of converting yen to rupee by multiplying by 0.61 ended up by dividing by 0.61. (Someones losing their job if they paid 128% duty on Rs. 5.28 lakh instead of Rs. 2.04 lakh ) Expect the imports to be priced around 4.25 lakh rupees including duties etc. That's steep!

Looks like the Thai aren't happy with the power the Grom makes. So, someone decided to plonk in a Panigale (no typo there) engine.

This guy made one for first time, I think it was a successful build, but it caught fire within 30 seconds of starting up. However, he had bought a new Ducati as of feb '16 and plans to build another.

Although I think this is OT.
