What I have done below is, split the data manufacturer wise so that a clearer picture is given as to how the share is being affected month-on-month

OBSERVATIONS

1. I have been making these charts from a few months and silently seeing each manufacturers sales but this month is one of the worst I have ever come across. There is a more of negative sales than positive even with the regular sellers thanks to DEMONETIZATION
   
   
   
2. Large drop from ~17.97 lakh units to 12.43 lakh units this month which accounts to almost 30.6% drop in sales. Wow!!
   
   
   
3. Leaders in the TOP-20 remain as usual albeit the quantities have come down drastically.
   
   
   
4. Splendor and Activa, most sold two wheelers in the country too haven't been spared. The splendor lost almost ~21% sales whereas Activa lost ~28%.
   
   
   
5. Most affected one is Centuro at 88% sales drop whereas least affected one is Classic 350 at 3% drop.
   
   
   
6. Only 4 entrants make it to the Gainer's chart - Achiever, Rodeo, CB Hornet 160 and Bullet 350 at 137%, 67%, 5% and 1% respectively.
   
   
   
7. To give you all the effect of demonetization, the losers chart will be having 30 entries rather than the usual 20. Sad to see that but the harsh reality.
   
   
   
8. Two new entries to this charts is Bajaj's V12 (Vikrant) with a 125cc engine and Harley Davidson's 1200CX - Roadster.
   
   
   
9. None of the trend charts are encouraging to see, all of them dipping. Would be interesting to see the sales trend for the next two months. IMO the sales currently are being done by the 'cashless' method i.e. buyer needs to transfer amount to the dealers account or PayTm or Cheque system so it will be nice to see if buyers have adopted this method, coming months will tell!
   
   
   
10. Compared to October'16, Hero lost 1.8 lakh units of sale, Honda at loss of 1.7 lakh units, TVS at 80K units, Bajaj at 70K units, Yamaha at 35K units.

Hero v/s Honda graph is diverging after several months of converging trajectory. Hero will be relieved. But have they done anything different or is it just a random effect of demonetization?

Triumph sold 71 bikes in Nov. They usually sell less than 100 bikes each month but they recently opened their 14th showroom in India (Link). Just does not make any economical sense to me. The cost of setting up and running 14 showrooms will be much higher than what they are earning in India. The only way it makes sense is if they are expecting a massive growth in the future and they are investing for it.

I think Benelli is selling good number of bikes. If possible, can we please include their sales data too from next month onwards?

Not possible till DSK (Hyosung, Benelli) becomes a member of SIAM..

Same for BMW, Aprilia, MotoGuzzi, MV Augusta

Firstly, thank you for the detailed analysis!

The demonetization effect on the 2 wheeler sales is . A 30% drop in sales across the board is genuinely shocking!

I really wonder how long it's going to take for things to pick up again. I don't think sales will even normalize in 2 months.

I noticed that the Hero Splendor, Honda Activa & Hero HF Deluxe seem to have the wrong revenue rank in the first table .

Thank you Anurag for the detailed information and analysis. Is it possible to get sales data of Indian Bikes in future?

November started off soo well, without Demonetization I predict market would have actually grown by 15-20%.

At present, Urban market is slowly returning to normal but rural market is still down (in Gujarat at least). Rural banks are not even opening accounts for loans as they are afraid of what will happen because of misuse.

Fingers crossed for recovery starting in January!
