The 2017 KTM RC200 & RC390. EDIT: Launched

Quote:
A leaked brochure of the upcoming new 2017 KTM RC200 and 2017 KTM RC390 has revealed all the details of the motorcycles ahead of their India launch this year. While the 2017 KTM RC390 gets a host of mechanical and visual updates, the 2017 KTM RC200 receives new livery. As seen in the brochure, the new RC390, which made its debut at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, receives mechanical updates in the form of a slipper clutch, ride-by-wire, switchable ABS and a larger 320 mm front disc brake. A under belly has been replaced by an aluminium, side mounted up-swept canister on the right side of the motorcycle.

Hmm so KTM is probably thinking "if it's ain't broke, why fix it?" philosophy. I was hoping of a new, fresh design ala new 390 duke but I guess this works too.

But what's the new mechanical changes? I didn't notice any thing significant. All these changes were already present.

I am not entirely sure of this but I think the 2017 RC 390 produces a slightly more torque at 36NM.

The most visible changes are the new exhaust that now looks more conventional and probably some tweaks to the decale/graphics.

Yeah, I hope with the new livery, they have fixed those ratting issues. Apart from this, brochure talks about 1) Ride by Wire system 2) Side mounted exhaust 3) Bigger disc brake.

I think same is the case with 2017 Duke 390, there is a sight nudge in the output due to side mounted exhaust system. Interestingly, from the brochure, it seems like KTM RC200 still retains its belly exhaust system.

Very disappointing to me atleast! They have given the old 390 shade to 200 and the old 200 color to 390 and call it 2017 version. Absolutely nothing on the design front except the exhaust I guess.

And what's brilliant - they reduced the already lower fuel tank capacity! At 25 kmpl FE for 390, you don't even get a 250 km range. And the 200 neither gets an ABS, not even as an option.

re: 2017 KTM RC200 & RC390: Brochure Leaked

This was expected. RC 390 was engineered with Duke 390 as the base. 1st gen RC 390 came a year after Duke hit the markets. The next gen RC will come only a year later with all the updates from the new Duke (which isn't here yet) and some more tweaking to its engine and handling. This update is a place holder until the next gen arrives in 2018.

@swiftnfurious RC's tank has always been 9.5l. There is no reduction
And yes, tank range is the biggest pain in the neck of owning this bike and that is the only thing that has bothered me in the last 7 months/3k km.
With a full tank, cruising around 100 km/h guarantees about 220-240 km range before the low fuel lamp lights up. In the city, you can get anywhere between 160-180 km.

PS: RC 390 is a gateway to bigger sportbikes in many ways. It provides a glimpse of what you can expect in bigger sportbikes in many aspects and that includes tank range too

re: 2017 KTM RC200 & RC390: Brochure Leaked. EDIT: Launched.

Strangely the least expensive RC200 looks better than the RC 390.

The yet to release Duke 390 looks stunning, so I'm sure the RC of next year ( 2018 ) will look even better. The new RC 390 just has some new decals compared to the current model. If you guy's have waited this long, then it would be smart to wait for the next Model year RC.

Does the RC also have higher fuel consumption than the duke?? Further making it worse ??

From what I read someplace earlier, the FE is less at lower speeds, but probably higher at triple digit speeds due to the RC's aerodynamic design. A drive done on both from Mumbai to Goa reported pretty much similar mileage for the trip.

Both the 2017 RC bikes are launched today. Could anyone list what' the difference in price Vs pre-facelift version?

KTM India today launched the long-awaited 2017 KTM RC 390 and RC 200 Supersport bikes in the country. Priced at 2.25 lakh and 1.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively, the bikes see some considerable updates.

Both the Bikes Are Now BS-IV Compliant. On feature front, it's the KTM RC 390 that gets all the goodies like - ride-by-wire tech, slipper clutch and a larger 320 mm front disc brake for improved stopping power. A dual channel Bosch ABS is standard on the RC 390.

Unlike its older sibling, the RC 200 continues to come with the underbelly exhaust system. Here the mechanicals do not see any comprehensive upgrades. That said the RC 200 does come with alluminium swingarm and upside down suspension

Deliveries for the 2017 KTM RC series will commence in a week's time across the country.
More details here.

Based on the thread for MY2016 models, the pre-facelift prices are (ex-Mumbai)
- RC 200: Rs. 1.65 lakh
- RC 390: Rs. 2.09 lakh

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorbikes/173118-ktm-launches-my2016-duke-200-duke-390-rc200-rc390.html

Slipper clutch was already part of the MY2016 RC390. The most significant updates should be the ride by wire, bigger front discs/sintered brake pads and side mounted exhaust. Of these, I am very much interested to know how the ride by wire changes the drive-ability of the bike. I assume the patchy fuelling at low rpms and refinement should improve drastically because of drive by wire. Maybe an existing RC390 owner can test-drive the new bike and post a short summary. I will do so if I find some time.

Additionally, the drive by wire could have opened up the possibility to provide riding modes in this bike. But, maybe they will add this feature in the 2017 Duke 390 first and bring it in the next-gen RC390 by 2018 or so. And I sincerely hope the side mounted exhaust brings a drastic change in the exhaust note . But I doubt if it improves, after all it is still a big single pot motor.

Overall, I feel the increase in price by about 15k INR is justified by the above mentioned significant changes apart from others. RC390 along with it's sibling, Duke 390 still remain the most VFM bikes in India (my humble perspective though).

re: 2017 KTM RC200 & RC390: Brochure Leaked. EDIT: Launched.

"Besides the two KTM brands – Duke and RC – Bajaj will soon add a third brand Adventure in its portfolio. This new range will borrow engines from the existing KTM range but will have a different product architecture. The two companies are presently working on finalizing design for the Adventure 390. Husqvarna, a European brand owned by Stefan, will become the third brand to be produced at Chakan. Bikes under Husqvarna will source the same engines used by KTM and Bajaj but will have their own product architecture. Necessary engineering changes are to be made at the Chakan plant to accommodate the Husqvarna models."

Good news from Bajaj is that they are also focusing on higher cc motorcycle engines.

Re: The 2017 KTM RC200 & RC390. EDIT: Launched

I visited Bund Garden-KTM yesterday. Only RC200 was on display and RC390 will be put on display in a week's time or so. I inquired about the on road prices of both the twins. To which the manager said, he is yet to receive intimation from KTM regarding that.

I cannot say about 2017 RC390 but 2017 RC200 looks awesome in person and with the new livery, It only adds to 'Hooligan' persona of the bike. I asked for the test drive, to which the sales representative said, It the same engine and can be arranged on the old RC200 and for the new RC 390, it will take another week or two.

Furthermore, I asked him if he has heard about rumors about the launch of 2017 Duke 390, to which he bluntly said, not before July. I nodded my head and bid goodbye.

Re: The 2017 KTM RC200 & RC390. EDIT: Launched

called up Whitefield KTM, they said the bikes are expected by 1st week of feb, and so are the prices. Pretty disappointed by the soft launch, if not the display models, at least the pricing should be in place.

I will go visit them on Sunday. I have been itching to get a bike from sometime, and we have no news on G310 and Akula launch. I might just end up getting the RC390 or the new Duke. Patience is running very very low.
