You have to maintain your rpm above 4.5k to enjoy the ride but that translates into insane speeds within city limits, so not do able. In peak Bangalore traffic you have to be prepared to take a 15 minute forced break for the engine to cool down. Even if a speed breaker casts a shadow you have to drop down to 1st gear.Needless to say done only 2k kms in the last 12 months.
You know what, I forgot to ask if this was needed for MY2018 bikes. You might want to check with your dealer.

Re: My KTM 390 Duke - Abandoned orange, almost went green, sniffed at blue & ended up with orange ag

Rode this little beauty to Kolli hills and back last weekend. Absolute hoot to ride but sadly it's a one trick pony. It's a perfect companion to hoon around in and that's all. Im now in two minds if I should part ways with it and look for something more "mature".

You've had the bike two odd years now, and clearly have enjoyed the ride despite initial reservations on what to buy. What would you replace it with? For the price, you're unlikely to get something that's as much fun. You could wait for the 790 to come out, that would be a great upgrade. Honestly though,if you're thinking of something a bit more mature, I think I'd keep the bike and add another. I'd miss the 390. Heck I had one which I let go off a few years ago when an acquaintance totalled it and I still miss it.

Exactly the reason why I'm in 2 minds. I know for a fact, the moment I let go of it I'll be heartbroken. Lack of vitamin M and apartment parking space does not allow me the liberty of buying a new one without selling this.

In that case I'd hang into it. See how you feel once the 790 Duke comes out. Reports are that it's truly exceptional and will probably beat everything else out there in price. You could consider Versys 650 and the like, but, after riding the 390, I think you'd be left a bit disappointed unless touring was your primary objective.

Re: My KTM 390 Duke - Abandoned orange, almost went green, sniffed at blue & ended up with orange ag

Since I am on the fence with whether to keep the bike or sell it, decided to join the Bangalore division of 2 wheeled Bhpians on a Sunday morning breakfast ride. I don't do breakfast rides and this was my first time. We headed out to Kanva reservoir backwaters. But before that breakfast followed by some pictures.

If you plan to sell, sell it now. The all new BS6 Duke 390 will be here in December, and after that and as another year passes, your bike will be worth even less.

What will make things worse for you is the 390 adventure, which will make dramatically more sense for anyone considering a new 390 for whatever purpose they want.

My KTM 390 Duke - Abandoned orange, almost went green, sniffed at blue & ended up with orange ag

The bike had served it's purpose for me. Talk about bang for your buck, came feature loaded and one didn't have to rob a bank to buy one. Was also a proverbial cat amongst the pigeons, could easily keep up with bikes several classes above, however that's where it ended for me. I found no joy in riding it in the city and the Mrs found no joy sitting pillion on the highway.
Thanks to our forum advert section found a very decent chap who looks like he will be able to do justice to the bike. Wishing him many kms of happy and safe riding. He looked really excited as you can tell in the picture below.

This time I've told myself to take it slow and not rush into my next purchase so will take my time in selecting my next bike.

re: My KTM 390 Duke. EDIT: Now sold

Oh that discussion is still going in circles AtheK.

It's the red HyperMotard v/s green Ninja 1000, followed closely by the dark horse orange 790 yet again.

Rather than going for a motorcycle that ticks all the boxes on paper, I'd suggest you aim for something that feeds your soul.

The kind that'd make you cross borders just for the heck ot it.

Do learn about a few different configurations and take ample test rides before even contemplating the next buy, else you'd simply be doing us OLX-fanatics a favor.

Regards,
A.P.
