Benelli Zafferano Scooter caught testing in Pune

On my way to work ,spotted this maxi scooter being tested on the NH4 Bypass, just after Balewadi. No frontal pics , as they are all screenshots from dashcam footage.
It looked slightly different than the Yamaha T-Max , and had MH12 TC plates. Do note the dual discs up front. The twin white dials were again , looked quite good.

Mods : Do merge in any existing thread if its available. Apologies for not being able to find it though.

The Rear Doesn't resemble any of the Peugeot Maxi Sooters, so probably we can rule out Mahindra. "MH12" Number plate? Could it be a Bajaj? Or could it be a new Aprilia/Vespa?

P.S: No point any other manufacturer based anywhere else in India, to be conducting tests in Pune.

Is this really happening??!! I feel like my prayers have been answered. I have always wanted to buy a full bodied scooter for such a long time now. Almost gave up on ever seeing one. Had my hopes pinned on Honda to deliver the PCX for nearly 2 years now. Thought Yamaha would bring out the Nmax after seeing it at a showroom in Chennai. Turns out it was a promotional thing only and the yamaha showroom people had no clue if they were even going to sell it.
From the pics i feel like its a Yamaha Tmax. Or it could also be heros fabled ZIR which was seen at the auto expo 2 years ago. Heres hoping that we get more news and pics in the next few days.

That seems like the Benelli Zafferano from the side though not very clear.

Guess it's a 250?

I think you are absolutely right! If its really the Benelli Zafferano , which it most likely seems like then this thing should cost around 2 Lac +/-.

You are right.
It is in fact the Benelli.
The side profile, the silencer and the tail lamps are the same as Zafferano.

- 250cc
- 155Kg Dry Weight
- 21PS, 20NM.

Cost: 2.2 Lakh (Indonesia)

I am holding on to my 11 year old Kinetic Blaze hoping for that maxi scooter upgrade.

Strange that this segment is conspicuous by its absence, despite Bikes having matured to many segments beyond the commuter category

Well lucky you on the Blaze.

In a country where every other scooter manufacturer wants to emulate the Activa I don't see the attitude towards scooters being commuter mules to change any time soon. Its not a bad thing but the choices are very limited. Also scooters are "meant to be" cost effective.
Buyers want to know if they can successfully transport a cylinder of LPG or 20Liter water container. They want to be able to get from A to B with their better half in the pillion and the kid standing in the foot rest.

Which bring me to my fear weather Benelli might even launch this scooter in India. They were testing the TNT135 earlier this year. Lots of spy pics were seen all over the web.The bike was launched in Nepal even before it ever hit Indian shores. However when it came to it they shelved the idea cause their market research did not show them making any profits with a 135cc bike pegged at nearly 1.5Lac. Now a 250cc scooter priced at 2+lac ....that's KTM 250 territory money.

Well here's hoping that Benelli releases this. Or at least Yamaha or Honda come out with their counterparts soon.

Let me give another perspective:

That's more expensive than most of ROYAL ENFIELDS... It's Harakiri.. unless of course DSK just wants to sell 10-20 such scooters every month.

Best of Luck

With all the troubles that the parent company is going through (Their real estate business went belly up, dragging all their other companies with them) , I doubt whether this scooter will actually see the light of the day. Who knows, Benelli/Hyosung might start looking for suitors again.

Re: Benelli Zafferano Scooter caught testing in Pune

With scooters taking over by storm and women increasingly getting into riding/driving/road tripping, this has some serious potential if priced well. And by that, i mean in scooter territory strictly. Given its heft, it will never be a city run-about like the activa or the more fun-aprilia. So positioning it properly is important.A premium it deserves for sure but putting it in motorcycle territory will be pointless.
