It appears that UM have started manufacturing these Bikes in India now, as opposed to China earlier.
Does anyone know, if that is a full scale manufacturing unit, or it is just assembling kits from China.

The Bike itself looks a bit odd, with the Styling, especially around the Battery cover/under tank areas appearing to be too plasticky.

From what I could Google out there is no news on Engines being manufactured in India. There was just an announcement that UM is 'considering' about manufacturing engines in India. Below is the source,

Quote:
UM Motorcycles said that the current level of localisation is 60 percent and the remaining 40 percent which is mostly engines is being imported. As of now, the company is considering either to outsource the manufacturing or to manufacture it in-house. The company will take the final call in the next three months.

Re: UM Renegade Commando Mojave, Commando Classic launched in India

I decided to check out the Commando Classic which was launched this month as the display / test mule finally arrived in Hyderabad. I could not do a test ride as the RTO formalities were yet to be done for this model.
Yours truly striking a pose on the Commando Classic.

My first impression was the top notch 2-tone Copper Cream metallic paint and its beautiful finish. Chrome has been garnished well on important visible parts.
Seats blend well with this color(other paint scheme is glossy black). Saddle bag is made of real leather, but has a contraption as it comes only on right side of the motorcycle (which let me down !!!), but the other side saddle bag can be added at an extra cost !!
What I liked :
1.) Dual Tone top notch metallic paint job
2.) Choice of color (Copper Cream)
3.) Tan colored seats.
4.) Mobile charger on the petrol tank and a small utility pouch to hold the mobile phone while charging on the go.
5.) Nice chrome garnishing on essential parts.
6.) Large Tall Visor to beat the winds.
7.) Strong built body and good height.
8.) Engine is quite silent for a cruiser.
9.) Good pricing: 2.20 Lacs(in Hyderabad) on road for a 300cc cruiser (my comparison is with a Hyosung Aquila 250, which could fall in the
same segment)
10.) Large backrest for pillion rider
11.) Adequate Electricals (Headlight), Digital Speedometer (only fuel & gear indicator)
12.) White wall inserts will take the beauty of this motorcycle to another level, IMHO.

What I did not like :
1.) Spoke wheels means, no tubeless tyres. Hence highway rides are not safe, as a puncture in the tube can ruin a long ride.
2.) Accessories coming at extra cost :
  • Left side Saddle bag
  • Full size leg rest for the rider
  • Gel seat for the rider (pillion rider has to settle for the hard OEM seat !!)
3.) Coolant tank looked very small and exposed.

I did not go near the Mojave edition as it looked repulsive.

The engines are manufactured by a company in China, the bike is assembled in India.

UM is in joint venture with LML and manufactures/assembles out of the same LML factory in Kashipur, Uttarakhand and inculcates "Make in India" concept.

Re: UM Renegade Commando Mojave, Commando Classic launched in India

The low-cost version of UM Renegade series, Renegade Duty 230, has been spotted by a Cartoq reader - see the below link.

https://www.cartoq.com/exclusive-low...avenger-rival/

From the article,

Quote:
The low cost cruiser will be called the Renegade Duty 230. It’s likely to use a new 230cc engine, which will be less powerful than the 280cc unit on the regular Renegades. It’ll be much cheaper too – with a 1.2 lakh rupee starting price.
.
.
.
Powering this new bike could be UM’s newly developed 230cc single cylinder engine that is likely to output 18 bhp of peak power. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This bike is likely to be launched soon, and if UM participates at the Auto Expo, it’s also likely to be showcased there.
18 bhp seems to be too low for a 230 cc engine, while the 280 cc engine powering the Renegade series produces 25 bhp of peak power. Heck, even Avenger 220 produces 19 bhp (while its sibling Pulsar 220F produces 21 bhp of power). With 5 speed gearbox, rear drum brake and NO ABS, I think this is grossly overpriced at 1.2 lakhs as the new updated 2018 Avenger 220 can be had for 93,000 rupees, which is almost similar.

Re: UM Renegade Commando Mojave, Commando Classic launched in India

Two new variants of UM Renegade range - Duty S and Duty Ace have been launched at Rs 1.10 lakh ex-showroom price. They will be on sale starting July this year.

https://www.autocarindia.com/news/um...10-lakh-407385

Specs:
Engine: 223 cc, Single Cylinder, Oil-cooled
Power: 17 hp @ 8,000 rpm
Torque: 17 Nm @ 5,000 rpm
Transmission: 5 speed gearbox
Tyres: Front - 120/80 R17, Rear - 130/90 R15
GC: 180 mm
Tank Capacity: 10 L

The price is 10K more than the recently launch Suzuki Intruder and may not have many takers.
