Maybe we're all overthinking this one? |
Can't contain the excitement.lol:
Been waiting for this ever since it was first rumoured back in 2013.
Now the wait gets even more painful, need to find an interim riding solution until then.

A cheap used 390 or even 200 depending on your usage / preference should do nicely! Having clocked 30k on my 390, I can tell you with full confidence that you would not regret it one bit, irrespective of what you wish to do with it - tour, commute or take it to the track

Nah he won't take the 390. He's married to the 220. Though we hear him crib and cry all the time about intermediary bikes, tire sizes and what not. Ultimately he'll do distances even with the rubber is off the rim, and post it in Facebook. clap: That being said and jokes apart, the thing is absolutely gonna create a heart attack in the Indian biking arena if launched within this year to first half next year.
With higher spec off road bikes, better and robust quality is indispensable. You cannot expect a busted fan, or a fuel pump failure in the middle of nowhere, at least not while climbing Himalayas or a mound some place else. I hope they launch it in India, price it decently with reliable parts, I am sure KTM's coffers are gonna be punching in for a long, long time to come.
Cheers!

So excited! Just when I had given up all hopes of owning this baby! Cant wait for them to bring it to India. KTM please bring it in Q1 2017. I really didnt want to buy the Himalayan out of desperation. Glad that I waited.
Wow, Great news. Now wishing that it comes with oodles of low end torque too! Will they be working on that front ?

Not sure of the >400cc claim, but [For me, atleast] visually the header size looks more or less same as that of the 390!
The side profile indeed shows that the high mounted console mount is finished in carbon fiber and there is little chance that this could be test equipments. I am beginning to feel that this is a rally replica they are testing! More in the lines of 450 Rally as mentioned in the link! sorry:
This! Is what I have been eagerly waiting for. I have been riding the RE CL500 for 6 years now and am desperate for a thoroughbred Adv Touring machine. I had booked the Himalayan but somehow, did not take the plunge owing to the paltry power output figures, especially the torque because I'm already accustomed to the 40 NM (or so) that the C5 puts out.
A light weight single cylinder Adv motorcycle churning out numbers similar to the Duke/RC engine is the need of the hour in India, that too from the KTM stable! Oh boy please take my money lol:
If at all it's a Rally 450 suited for Adv Touring, then I'm really going to lose my ---- :D So, bring it on KTM, you're my real Secret Santa. I'm all excited.
KTM did the same thing exactly a year back, it showed spy shots of the all new Duke line and we were all in a speculation tizzy.
Come EICMA 2016 , we finally got to see the new Dukes.
I think its going to be the same with the ADV as well, we will need to wait till EICMA 2017 to really know what's cooking in the Austrian's Indian kitchens.
that's a WOW from KTM. Personally I was too excited for the Himalayan but was let down buy its power figures. Don't get me wrong it is definitely worth it for the off road enthusiast. In the Powerdrift review Sagar stated that some of the bolts became loose after 3 days of off roading. And this is where I don't like RE, for the quality of finishing in this product.
This 390 ADV looks damn good even as an unfinished product. If they launch it with that Dakar esque looks then I will throw my money on this thing. Too excited..

As much as I hate to admit it, I think you are right. Its probably a rally replica, not the little ADV we have all been waiting for
Even the engine casing looks different
I was one of those people who was thrilled when the Himalayan was launched as it was exactly the type of motorcycle i was looking for and in my budget. But after riding it, my heart was broken. It was hideous beyond belief and totally contrary to what all the journalists were crooning about...(Makes me question their objectivity). Now again i'm happy that the "real deal" will be launched soon.
So I'm sure we have been reading about the engine casing not being similar to the 390 mill. I did check myself comparing pics and they are indeed not the same... which leaves me confused as to what's going on. I'm a fool to be hopeful for a 450 please: But, I'm secretly praying for it.
That can't be the 390 engine. That definitely looks bigger to me. Compare the image of the 390 engine below. There's more engine casing extending forward from the clucth casing. Also the oil filter is at a different location and so are the various hoses.
My guess is this could be a 450 or a 500 (490?). And I think thats good because the 390 lacks bottom end punch. Cant ride an offroader with a crazy powerband like that all up top of the tach scale. A flat torque curve and a 9k RPM limit would be ideal. Oh Yeah and an overdrive 6th like the 390 to munch up the droneways :thumbs up
