Here's some more food for thought. A KTM 500 EXC is a pretty off road focused motorcycle and is generally revered for its enduro chops, correct? Google tells me its an oversquare motor too. Howcome?

As far as I am concerned; there's nothing to fix ... engine wise

clap:

KTM is the king of off-road. There is very little - if any at all - they have to learn in that arena. Have some faith, and some patience.

New spy shots of KTM 390 Adventure. Can see a GS at the back and I think its a Suzuki V-Storm at the front.

I disagree - and here's why...

Honda CRF450L:
96mm x 62mm bore & stroke
12:1 compression
Peak power 38bhp at the wheel @7360rpm
80%+ of torque available @ 3500rpm

CCM GP450 Adventure:
98mm x 60mm bore & stroke
12:1 compression
Peak power 40bhp @7000rpm

KTM 390 engine:
89mm x 60mm bore & stroke
12.6:1 compression
Peak power 43bhp @9500rpm

At an astonishing 125kg, the CCM is about the most off-road capable ADV bike money can buy. The Honda is one of the most hard-core enduro bikes money can buy. Both are more oversquare than the KTM, but making peak power over 2000rpm lower.

As it has the same stroke length as the CCM (actually slightly longer, the exact stroke of the CCM is 59.6mm), the KTM will be running a much hotter cam to be revving that much harder. I suspect that a milder cam with fueling and ignition maps to match & maybe a slightly lower compression piston and heavier crank would put the KTM engine characteristics in a similar place to these two highly capable off-road bikes.

To be launched in November? Says ACI -

We’ve received information that KTM has turned its focus towards launching the 390 Adventure and the upcoming Husqvarna models by November. That means we're likely to see the launch happen in India soon after the international reveal takes place at EICMA, a practise KTM usually follows for all new model releases.

Wow hadn’t heard of the 450 ! It just moved to the top of my ‘most desirable bike ‘ list, ticks all the boxes for me. Pity they don’t make it anymore. What do these sell for on the used market there ?

Seems to be about £6500 for a really clean low miles one, £4000 for a more used & abused one.

There's loads of upgrades for them like electronic suspension etc... which can affect the price. Most owners seem to be hanging onto them.

The engine is a BMW unit made by Kymco. It can be factory upgraded fairly cheaply to 55bhp instead of 40bhp and most are. CCM set it to 40 to increase service intervals & mpg. Euro4 emissions killed the bike off, but there is an improved 600cc version on the way.

I really want a go on one but I'm worried I'll immediately want to buy it lol:

Ok my impulse is in its death bed and I'm frankly tired of it even with the Karizma engine!

I've had it up to here with these rumors. If they don't launch the adv this year I've decided to buy a jawa and Jack it up with off road suspension as It's the lowest 300cc in the market I believe and should easily take a 2" lift. But please KTM just launch it already will you, I know I can't build a better scrambler than you guys but I AM RUNNING OUT OF PATIENCE HERE!!

This was in Trivandrum, Kerala.

:uncontrol I was asked same question last year. I was on my D400

btw - Waiting anxiously for KTM 390A. Hope fully this year November it will be launched.

I've been waiting for this since 2015. And now my patience has finally run out. I've booked a Himalayan, though it would be a bummer then if the 390A gets launched in November.

It IS getting launched this November.

Why not an Xpulse? Far cheaper than the Himalayan, and dare i say, runs much much better.

XPulse was my first choice. But then a test ride later I am certain this thing won't be easy to ride two-up with luggage on the high Himalayas. Moreover, it seems rather sluggish to me. Good for commuting to work or to thrash around in the mountains with just one rider.

So the next best thing that remained was the Himalayan. I wasn't impressed with the motor on the Himalayan either. I am sucker for ADVs and dual sports, nothing else remains in my budget.

So I am making a compromise here.

Don't.

We are not that far from November, wait a little more. In case there is nothing on Horizon by the end of year, you can always opt for the Himalyan. You never know there might be a H650 by that time.

Guys, do we know for sure if KTM will unveil the 390 Adventure at EICMA in November? If yes, do we know by when deliveries will start in India? I suspect they will showcase it at EICMA but deliveries will not happen this year for us.

cataclysm, if you are not in a rush, I too would also suggest holding off for a while until you know all the launches for this year.

Do we have any clue if the 390 Adv will have a rerouted exhaust so it does not fry the left leg ?

And yes. I can confirm being stopped multiple times by cops simply because I was on a bright orange bike. Take off my helmet and show the cops a head of sparse gray hair and I've been let past immediately. I sold my 2014 390 and picked up a Interceptor 650 finally just a month ago. No such trouble since, though I must say being stopped repeatedly was not the reason I sold the bike.
