Rumour: TVS to launch iQube Hybrid soon

TVS to launch hybrid, which it has been showing at Auto Expo's. Electric motor coupled to 110cc engine, is said to deliver 70 kilometers per litre.

re: Rumour: TVS to launch iQube Hybrid soon

Whoa! What a pleasant surprise. Hybrids haven't made it to mass-market cars yet, and here is a scooter coming up with the tech. I'll be happy if this rumour is true, but there's no doubt it'll be expensive.

It's amazing how different - in terms of tech - the 2-wheeler & 4-wheeler segments are. There are already some very viable e-scooters in the market, yet electric cars remain a pipe dream. Equally, I think hybrid cars will be a good stop-gap before we move to electric cars. On the other hand, 2-wheelers might make the leap straight to EVs.

Lets wait a week though. A friend with insider information mentioned this source article was hyped. However, there is certainly something brewing, mostly on the existing Jupiter platform.

TVS is already toying with the hybrid idea - they had it showcased at the 2018 Expo in the form of the Zepellin concept as well. But seems to be expensive proposition in the scooter segment.

Re: Rumour: TVS to launch iQube Hybrid soon

While talking to a couple of senior managers in TVS R&D last year, they had mentioned about a hybrid scooter in the pipeline. We were told that the launch was planned for end of 2017. Guess it must have got delayed to this year. Since there is no ABS planned for this scooter, it will definitely be less than 125 cc.

Considering how popular automatic scooters have become, I think a hybrid scooter is a very relevant product today for our congested cities - especially if TVS can deliver high fuel efficiency, and simultaneously eliminate pollution due to idling / crawling in city traffic. Hopefully, they have used the time well to bring out a sorted, niggle-free product in the first go.

Instead of a much anticipated hybrid - TVS has gone ahead and launched a 110cc commuter 'Radeon' today. Guess this thread can be closed till there is more concrete news about the hybrid.
