Micromax co-founder to develop an e-motorcycle with a 500 crore investment

While there is Ather for the moped/scooter class, looks like we may soon have some options in the e-motorcycle category. This is Rahul Sharma, one of Micromax's co-founders, latest venture.

Quote:
Sharma — for whom this is a solo venture sans his Micromax partners — is ploughing nearly Rs 500 crore of his wealth into the new venture.

The first product that the company plans to launch in a few months will be an electric motorcycle — with a range of 150 kms on a full charge, which intends to take on petrol-run products from conventional two-wheeler biggies such as Hero Moto, Bajaj Auto and TVS.
Quote:
The company will start sales around June-end and Delhi will be the first market.

re: Micromax co-founder to develop an e-motorcycle with a 500 crore investment

Elon Musk in the USA & Ather in India clearly paved the way for a lot of entrepreneurs. Many startups sprang up and, as always, venture capital funding followed.

Just wondering on the thought process. Sooner or later, the established manufacturers are also going to offer electric motorcycles & scooters. What incentive would there be for anyone to go for a product from a new / lesser known brand? Similarly, I think Tesla's run is also going to get challenging once the top 10 car manufacturers have a line-up of EVs in their showrooms.

Ather was smart. They knew this and hence, brought onboard Hero Motors as an investor.
