Enfield launches ABS versions of Bullet 350 & 350 ES – Completes the RE range with ABS as standard

RE has finally upgraded the Bullet 350 and the 350 ES range with the single channel ABS set up. This upgrade comes with a subsequent price increase as well. Bullet 350 will be costlier by 4500/- while the 350 ES will cost you 1500/-. While I would have liked them to keep the pricing same, given that these are the cheapest RE you can own, the price increase seems to minimal.

Updated price list:

re: Enfield launches ABS versions of Bullet 350 & 350 ES – Completes the RE range with ABS as standard

A meager 1500 and 4500 rupees addition would have made these bikes safer years ago, pity they wait for Government to make such things mandatory. The volumes they have done over the years, and profits they have made, maybe they could have once sat down and thought of the riders safety too. I am sure everyone would have happily shelved out that much to get safer bikes.

re: Enfield launches ABS versions of Bullet 350 & 350 ES – Completes the RE range with ABS as standard

It's shame that braking quality on RE bikes haven't increased even with the addition of ABS. The feedback is still the same stony and lacks sufficient stopping power. I rode a Classic 350 ABS about a week ago and wasn't impressed with the performance at all. The rear disc barely retards or decelerates the motion of the bike. Seems like a total rip off of the 1st Gen Pulsar 220 rear.

Can anyone confirm if the Bullet 350/ES gets the new swing-arm as the Trials, a fellow enthusiast did say so, but I'm yet to see one with the new swing-arm.

Now that is news to me. I haven't heard or read anything about it.

As per source it seems to be the export model swing-arm, and has been made available to domestic Bullet 350/ES from a while ago, though I'm literally yet to see one in the flesh.

And I do pay special attention to RE motorcycles I see around me, the swing-arm has been a key pointer I take note of after a reported incident where someone braked sharply while accelerating which caused their swing-arm to crumble from the torque.

Drum brakes with ABS on the rear (wonder what all fiascoes it brings with it), fuel gauge instead of ammeter ; interesting mods on an RE Standard ! Happy to see RE upgrading their cheapest motorcycle, which is a consistent seller. The simplest mechanical motorcycle in the RE stable is not simple any more

Small correction. It's still a single channel ABS with ABS working only on the front wheel. Two toner wheels and two wheel speed sensors necessarily does not mean its having ABS at the front and the rear.

Thanks for the enlightenment nikhn So is the rear one just a gimmick or does it have any significance other than making the rear wheel removal more complicated ?

Definitely not a gimmick since the sensor and toner wheel add cost to the vehicle. It is needed to achieve required deceleration during ABS functioning and for better stability as compared to when having a single toner wheel.
Also does not make removing the wheel more complicated since the toner wheel is attached to the wheel hub and sensor is connected to swingarm. There is only a possibility of damaging it due to careless handling.

That is the precise part I was having in my mind when I stated about the wheel removal going to be more tough. In older Enfields, standard and electras in particular, the part on which the sensor is attached now, used to be a distance piece, which fell down once the axle was pulled out. The wheel could then be tilted and pulled out easily. If this particular distance piece is welded to the swing arm (which I doubt), then believe me it is going to be hard to remove that once quick detachable rear wheel.

Edit : And I hope the part you called the toner wheel is not expensive. As you have rightly stated, there is high chance of it getting damaged, especially when worked on by local puncture repair guys.

That sensor at the rear is for rear wheel lift protection I believe as we have a similar setup on the single channel ABS Pulsars which sports sensors at both ends.

Nope. This is a basic single channel ABS. No rear lift protection is provided. Even in the Pulsar Single channel series. It is just too get rear wheel speed data for better stability and faster deceleration.

Damn! Guess this article misled me.

Quote:
Bajaj has decided to equip their popular Pulsar 220F with a single channel ABS system instead of dual-channel unit. However, the single-channel ABS system also features a rear lift-off protection (RLP) which prevents the rear wheel from lifting off the ground under heavy braking.
