The idea behind a frame slider is to put an extra piece that can sacrifice itself in case of a slide/drop to prevent damage to the other parts of the bike. Typical drops and slides will see you damage the tank/fairings, handlebar and levers, foot levers and sometimes front forks/discs.
If you do a cost/failure analysis, on some bikes, the damaged components may require a hefty sum to repair/require long stocking times or may leave you stranded. So in that case it would be beneficial to install a much cheaper slider to take the damage and replace it instead of replacing bike parts/waiting for parts to reach you.
The sliders you showed are not specific to the Bullet. You need specifically built sliders to ensure a fair bit of thought has gone into the design to prevent complications like slider lifting the bike and digging into the ground and cartwheeling / trashing the frame and many inexplicable and unforeseen scenarios. This topic is a whole can of worms.
Spare parts for the bullet are readily available and maybe not as expensive as for the bikes in the link you provided.
Sliders are also just that, work only for slides and static drops. They are designed to work on flat surfaces like race tracks and very nice roads. Potholes will have catastrophic results. Besides, your bike insurance which you paid for should cover accidental damages(Do check this).
Do check with a RE Service/sales agent into crash protection. Bullets typically have specifically made leg guards/crash guards for this. |
