Sanjay Bhan of Hero MotoCorp resigns after a 30 year stint

Sanjay Bhan, Head – Sales, Aftersales and Parts, Hero MotoCorp, is learnt to have resigned from his role in the company. With this move, Bhan brings to an end a nearly 30-year-stint at the two-wheeler major. He had joined Hero MotoCorp (then Hero Honda) in 1991 at a sales function in Vadodara. Information about Bhan's successor is not available yet.

As the head of marketing, Bhan was responsible for the launch of the Hero brand in 2011, after the Delhi-headquartered company diluted the joint venture with Honda Motor Co. He was also responsible for customer care, parts business, and global parts centre operations.

Bhan's resignation comes at a time when the auto industry is facing a severe slowdown. Hero MotoCorp, and many other OEMs, had to engage in a major inventory correction drive in the market.

Prior to joining Hero MotoCorp, Bhan, who has an MBA from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, had worked in Dunlop India.

Waiting to see how long Hero will stay on top of the motorcycle chain. Their recent launches are all sub 200cc. Their 650 concepts "Hastur" or that fictional 130kg wet weight 250cc HX250 didn't live to see production form. Are the Xpulse 200 and Xstream 200 reworked old Honda engines?

Is Hero still paying royalties to Honda? Last I read a few years ago they were supposed to finish royalty payments within 3 years of split but then they had to continue paying it for a few models that were still in good demand.

The EBR partnership resulted in that abominal ZMR only a handful people bought. That ZMA/ZMR nameplate was killed off due to that.

Who is their current partner? Some 3rd party European firm? AVL? Engines Engineering?

With how expensive Motorcycles are going to become come BS VI, Hero will do fine for next 8-10 years at least. Sanjay Bhan did not leave due to issues with Hero or market or anything, if he wanted to do that he would have done so 5-6 years ago.
