The Dominar 250, now launched at Rs. 1.60 lakh

Motorbeam reports that Bajaj is testing Dominar 250 using the KTM 250 Engine.
Finally getting options in bikes which has a usable pillion seat (upcoming Thunderbird X and now the Dominar 250). The pillion seat has become more of a show piece in current crop of bikes.

Rushlane reports that this bike is the BS6 Dominar

One of the reasons I diss Bajaj; is bring out a great motorcycle and brand and then dissolve the image going right lower to 125cc making it a mass market motorcycle. Gosh! But then who am I, Rajiv Bajaj? Waiting for the official word on the CC

Cheers!

The rear tyre looks one size smaller than the Dominar, so I guess the 250 theory could be true.

True. Looks like a 130-140 section rear tyre to me. Just like the one on NS 200.

Now the rumours of the Himalayan 250 also begins to make sense.

I totally agree with your point. It’s more of a pattern with Bajaj.

2000-2010 - Bajaj kept increasing portfolio and their cubic capacity in bikes - 150-180-200-220

2010-2020 - They’re mostly doing the opposite and seems confused. While the strategy is to get more buyers for the Dominar by reducing the CC, it loses the exclusivity later once launched. But, yeah business and brand has to run so I give it to them

A D250 would be a good fit in the line up I feel. The quarter class makes sense at being a good commuter + occasional tourer. The price was also competitive in the 400 guise so I hope the trend continues while still keeping all the good stuff like the upside down forks and other standard feature sets.

The one big problem with bajaj is their showroom staff suck. Someone I know tried for 2 months to get a proper test ride of the Dominar and none of the 3 showrooms in his city could arrange a test ride for more than 2 mins. After struggling and failing he bought a Bullet 350 instead as the dealer was more than happy to give him a long TD and so he bought that instead of the bike he actually wanted. This wasn't long back so I don't think Bajaj service has improved much if at all.

To be very honest, the Bajaj Showroom staff here are more considerate than Yamaha or Honda. Every time I used to give my 150 for servicing, they took good care of it and behaved well. Hell, I've been invited to for tea and breakfast with their GM at times.

Bajaj Dominar to get cheaper 250cc version

According to a media report, Bajaj is working on a 250cc version of the Dominar. It is expected to be positioned below the Dominar 400 and could be launched as early as next month.

The Dominar 250, now launched at Rs. 1.60 lakh-dominar.jpg

The Dominar 250 is expected to use the 248.8cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine from the KTM 250 Duke. This engine develops 30 BHP and 24 Nm of torque.

Like the Dominar 400, the 250cc version could get an LED headlamp and digital instrument cluster as well as a twin canister exhaust. The bike is likely to get narrower wheels and tires as well as smaller brakes.

Dominar 250 is a good move. I have always had a soft spot for Dominar but its price (which is reasonably good for its class but still was out of range for me) was keeping me away from it. Have to wait and see how this is priced to make a call.

Wasn't the Dominar already VFM?

Would definitely sell. But I doubt Bajaj would shoot themselves in the foot with that tune. I'd expect it to be reasonably detuned from the 30 possible horses so that it doesn't eat into the 400's market.

That way it can sit comfortably between the Pulsar and Dominar 400 in the Bajaj line-up. while competing with the Gixxer 250.

This bike will sit right above the RS200. I expect it to be priced a tad higher. This is going to be one heavy 250cc. I think it'll share most parts with the RS/NS.

One grouse from the Dominar I feel is it is targeted towards cruising and has a smaller tank than my Apache RTR. Otherwise the 400 is already so much wow, the 250 is sure bound to find more takers

I don't think they will detune it because the D400 now churns out 40ps power and the Pulsar RS200,IIRC, 25ps. So a 30 ps 250cc Dominar would be a perfect tune IMO.
