TVS to launch an all-new motorcycle with BMW's 313cc engine!

TVS will be coming up with an all new motorcycle based on BMW's 313cc engine that is currently doing duty on the Apache RR310, BMW G310R & the 310 GS. It will be rather interesting to see what type of motorcycle they ultimately come up with. My guess is its going to be a crusier based on the Zeppelin concept that was shown in the 2018 Auto Expo.

Speaking to analysts K. N. Radhakrishnan, President, CEO & Additional Whole-Time Director - TVS Motor Company, said, “With respect to BMW, I think they are extremely happy. The two products are doing extremely well. We have launched our one version (RR310) on that platform, the new one with BS-VI engine was recently launched. And we, possibly next year, will have one more variant of that from TVS Motor Company.”

“So this is something the new product and upgrade is something we have to constantly look at opportunities and constantly delight the customer, and we will invest behind that,” added Radhakrishnan.

P.S: President, CEO & Additional Whole-Time Director - TVS Motor Company: Why are these corporate designations so hilariously long?

re: TVS to launch an all-new motorcycle with BMW's 313cc engine!

Could it be a naked version of the RR 310 - an Apache 310 perhaps ? They already have the Apache platform, all they need to do is shoehorn the engine & gearbox combo with suitable changes. The shorter wheelbase Apache should be able to take in that engine if they keep the same configuration as in RR 310. From their own blog

Quote:
The TVS Apache RR 310 employs a segment-first reverse inclined configuration for its engine. This allows the engine to be placed even forward for better weight distribution, enhances air-flow and helps the bike to accommodate a longer swingarm for increased stability, without the need to increase the wheelbase.
The Zeppelin too makes good sense - they already have a prototype. The only thing being, there haven't been any test mules surfacing.

IMO they also have the experience & expertise to maybe even develop an adventure motorcycle around the same engine - a segment that has seen some interest of late.

Cheers !

I so wish they launch a GS version of RR130. This seems to be the hottest segment at the moment after the arrival of KTM 390 Adventure. There is a huge gap between Himalayan and TRK/Versys which could be filled by this one.

I am pretty sure they have a big non compete agreement in select markets about not over stepping on each other’s toes. That’s why BMW doesn’t have a faired sportsbike version of the 310 yet. Though it might not make any sense for them anywhere at all.

I would've loved to see an ADV too but RedLiner is right. Their pact is to make different categories of motorcycles under each name. So both can compete/sell in any market together.

Quote:
“It is a joint effort and there is no royalty agreement; there will be two distinct products that will roll out and be sold under their respective brand names, TVS and BMW, in all markets,” Srinivasan clarified, in support of Schaller’s contention that it would not be fair to divide markets geographically

Re: TVS to launch an all-new motorcycle with BMW's 313cc engine!

IMHO TVS should make/use a long-stroke, high-on-torque engine for their Zeppelin concept. I would welcome a naked variant of RR 310 (It could do the trick that Dominar missed), or even better an adventure bike. But I'm skeptical about a TVS cruiser with BMW's short-stroke single-cylinder engine.

Re: TVS to launch an all-new motorcycle with BMW's 313cc engine!

Zigwheels gives an update that 'Zeppelin' name has been trademarked by TVS and launch by next year:
Quote:
TVS first showcased its Zeppelin cruiser concept motorcycle at the 2018 Auto Expo. We haven't witnessed serious development on that front since then. But there have been new additions to the cruiser market in the form of the Honda H’Ness CB350, the Jawa Perak and the Royal Enfield Meteor. Now according to patent documents, TVS have copyrighted the ‘Zeppelin R’ name. This leads us to believe that TVS might come up with the Zeppelin R cruiser to rival them.

TVS could launch the Zeppelin R sometime next year. We expect it to be priced at Rs 1.5 lakh. That would make it quite a tempting proposition. Stay tuned for more details.
