Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

No motorcycle can do a job of an escort vehicle effectively. ( I have been exposed to pilot/escort vehicles for almost 3 decades. )

Does he plan to put sirens on motorcycles or equip the riders with wooden sticks to disperse traffic or just have 2 motorcycles follow him with 2 people waving their hands and cursing people to move to the side?
An angry commuter will throw one of these 'bodyguards' down with just a nudge if the guards get to excited.

On a different note, the escort vehicle is clearly not doing a good enough job if they are getting separated from the vehicle they are escorting. I am assuming these are private guards and not cops. And in that case, these are suggestions on how to create further nuisance on the road.

You are correct! Currently there are no special training skills given to these bodyguards as far as defensive driving skills are concerned.

We train private contractors who thought they knew their stuff and we burn their ego after the first 200 meters of driving.

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

One begs to ask the question :

When you can pay a bunch of bodyguards to protect you round the clock, why limit the price of the bike to under 3L?.

Kill Bill : Vol 2, made me ask the question.

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

I never understood the logic behind having bodyguards on two-wheelers.
Unless the aim is hot pursuit (or escape), it makes no sense to waste manpower on an inherently unstable vehicle which consumes all the mental and physical effort just to be upright and mobile.

How can a single bodyguard protect as well as ride the bike. He needs two guards on one bike to be effective if it is not for showing of purpose only. For that any bike which can seat two like new Jawa will be good.

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

For the requirements as detailed by GTO, the Interceptor 650 makes for a lot of sense at that price point. It will be easy enough to squeeze through city traffic and the bike has more than enough poke to handle quick acceleration scenarios as well as the occasional high speed runs. I dare say it is more user friendly than the KTM Duke 390, considering the bodyguards who will use the bike may or may not be experienced motorcyclists and that the bike will rotate between them. Its proven to take a lot of abuse as well so it ticks that box.

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

A Honda CB300

Ultra reliable , refined , efficient

Other choices would be a Yamaha FZ25 / Yamaha Fazer 25.

Suzuki Gixxer & SF 250cc are other options too.

Reliability, non tapering out performance, you have to look for Japs, and easy to maintain.

Some out of the box choices would be BMW GS310 (would e best for a Bodyguard build).

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

I don't think the bodyguards should be on the bike. Rather they should be in the car with the VIP. I would suggest to get a bigger Luxury Van.

If the VIP wants privacy in the car; does he drive the car himself?

I fail to understand concept of having bodyguards on bikes rather than near the VIP himself. I can't imagine the plight of someone "non-VIP" if he/she cuts the VIP's route by mistake. The body guards might chase the car to his/her destination.

Sorry to say, but this is the first time I am disappointed with a thread on tbhp.

Aprillia 150?

It is nimble, fast and you probably cannot do this in any geared bike, in India at least!

Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?-1.jpg

Ps - Limit the A150 to one Pax and its a demon on city roads!

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

I'd like to chime in too. For the kind of work a body guard would do and would need his vehicle to do, I'd suggest going for a BMW 310GS or the new KTM 390 Adventure. These are bikes with comfortable stance for a fatigue free ride and have a capable enough suspension if there is a need to push or jump over dividers or face abuse of broken roads etc in case of a chase. Also they can just jump these bikes over the beat up bodies of all the people they beat while protecting their VIP.

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

I am surprised no body talked about Honda CB300. I think no body can match Honda's reliability. It is a fast bike with good Power. Also retro looks matches the Body Guard requirement.

I am fully in agreement for Dominar as well, I personally own it and really convinced it is a super bike with good short term reliability. But, issue may be long term reliability since it is from Bajaj. Compared to Honda quality and reliability, Bajaj is yet to catch up.

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

@GTO - assuming i read your post correctly, it means two bikes, but each ridden solo by one bodyguard, no pillion ? Assuming yes first choice Duke 390 should be absolutely the right fit, can't think of anything else that will be fast, nimble, and will bear a reasonable amount of abuse.

PS - do tell "friend" to ensure the bodyguards are adequately trained, both in terms of riding skills but also to be mindful of other commuters, these guys shouldn't end up making life hell for others on the road. Saying this as an old recollection came up fresh on the mind - that of having guns pointed at me menacingly, as i once unwittingly ended up between the VIP car and the escort car

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

Many responses states Duke 390 is best for the purpose, but seeing below requirement, Duke 390 doesn't cut it.

Quote:
However, the two cars are invariably separated in traffic.
Understanding that the bodyguards have to travel often in traffic, the Duke 390 will be a tandoor between legs. So, Duke 390 is out.

Next up is Dominar 400. Though it seems like Dominar suits the requirement, my understanding is there will be circumstances where pillion riding becomes necessary, and Dominar is not a pillion friendly bike. I own one, sat only once as a pillion when my friend wanted to ride my bike and never again. So, Dominar doesn't cut it.

My view, Interceptor 650 would be a best bet for the given circumstance.

- Should be fast - Check
- Should be pillion friendly - Check
- Should not be attention seeker - Check
- Should be reliable - Check (I have some friends who own Int 650 and its mostly reliable and quality is far far superior to the 350s/500s)

In addition to being fast, Interceptor 650 is very forgiving, which the Duke 390 is not. A fast & yet forgiving bike is more suited when their job is to look for the boss and follow him.

As a bonus, your friend can choose a colour which closely match with the bodyguards' uniform with wide colour options of Int 650

KK

Re: Fast & reliable bike to carry bodyguards, under 3 lakhs?

Some Honda dealers are offering bs4 stock of cbr250rs for 1.5 lakhs OTR. For 3 lakhs he can buy 2 of the fast and reliable motorcycle this side of 3 lakh rupees.
