Re: Lockdown presents...My Scooter Collection

Lovely thread - I wonder what is the total count of vintage vehicles at your end and what is going to be the final count

Here's a Pic of a restored scooter from one of my wife's relative in Mangalore. They also have a maintained M800 and are now working on a Kinetic Honda.

I literally had to go through 1000ss of pics and organize. Once I managed that, I started this thread. I spent quite some hours doing this thread and kept me occupied. I look forward to reading many other threads and considering putting up few more threads I have been keeping pending for long time. I have few more scooters archived at a friends place and don't have any pics nor much details handy. Will save it for future.

I hope I did my bit to help you guys utilize your Lock down time!!! Stay safe, stay home. Lets break the chain and flatten the curve.
Hi there from Hyderabad, I am very happy to see the passion you have for scooters which is not common these days. I have a wonderfully maintained Bajaj Cub 1988 electronic with me that belongs to a friend and its a fun ride. Will dig up and share pictures once I locate my hard-disk. Ride Safe.

Re: Lockdown presents...My Scooter Collection

Please suggest a gearbox oil for Bajaj Chetak and LML NV (both 2 stroke). The owner's Manual says 20W-40 but a lot of internet sources say SAE 30 oil. I have recently purchased a can of Motul 4T 20W-40 (JASO MA2). Is it fine to use in my scooters?

Re: Lockdown presents...My Scooter Collection

Intriguing, interesting and inspiring to see the restoration on the lineup of classics @funkykar sir.

I have an ageing 1983 Bajaj Super to be restored but am not able to get a mechanic to do so. Planning to do it myself now. The lockdown period was spent on reviving a Bullet and some carpentry projects.

Where could I source parts for the Bajaj super? I am located in Goa.

Awesome post. Really helped motivate me to get an old scooter for myself. Tried to restore my fathers chetak but didn't find mechanics competent enough yet.
Purchased an LML NV. Please suggest how to best maintain it. Regards.

I am posting some pictures of my dads much neglected Bajaj Chetak.
Can anyone say if this is al all worthy to be restored and some projected cost?

Re: Lockdown presents...My Scooter Collection

Hello again. Posting some pictures of rust on the floorboard and wheel of the LML I purchased.
Please comment in the structural integrity and if they need to be changed, can something be ordered or do I need to do sheet metal welding at the mechanic's?

Re: Lockdown presents...My Scooter Collection

Hello again.
I found out after reading that the frame is made up of sections: like floorboard and center tunnel, and center tunnel is the main weight bearing part and must be the most structurally sound.

Where I live, floorboard may be available but center tunnel maybe not. Does anyone know where it can be ordered?
If at all I do not get the center tunnel, can I use iron grills like for windows, and weld them all around the center section, and paint, to reinforce the structure? Maybe it would look bad but the scooter might not break apart on the road...

Hello there, Since you are in kolkota, why not try to source the center "spine" from any junk dealer. The idea to weld the reinforcements is a good jugaad, but again, if the central pipe is weakened by rust from inside it will be dangerous. Other scooter experts please help with the original query.
