Mavox Helmets has launched face shields for health workers fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. These face shields will be available for healthcare specialists, journalists, municipal workers, industry workers, drivers, lab technicians, vendors, delivery boys or anyone exposed to high-risk environment.



According to the company, the face shield is a cheaper alternative to single-use shields. It provides splash protection from the front and from the sides.

The face shield is made from polycarbonate that is hard coated to prevent scratches. The shield consists of two parts - an adjustable elastic headband and a visor, which is optically approved with ISI certification. The shield is claimed to be suitable for prolonged use and ensures no eye strain, headache, or any other discomfort.

The company claims that the face shield can be sterilized by submerging it in a disinfectant solution or isopropyl alcohol with sanitiser for at least 5 minutes.

I remember using such product in 2005 or so in Bangalore when I used to ride bike and helmets were not mandatory. This was used to protect from dust and wind blast. That time these used to cost Rs 50-60. I think these should be available in abundance in JC Road in Bangalore.
Good that these screens can be helpful for our health staff at this time of need. But with this usecase, I believe price of this product will escalate like hell.

Where can I buy these? I'd love to have a couple at home once they are available for regular customers. After reading that the eyes are vulnerable too, I'd prefer something like this when interacting with a group of people (instead of just a mask).

Yes, the virus enters primarily through Mouth-Eyes-Nose (MEN) and so it is always better to cover all these 3. Masks just cover your Mouth and Nose. Simple Aviator Goggles or Swimming/Skiing goggles can help too I suppose, if you can wash and disinfect them properly after use/exposure.

A jugaad way to recreate the same is to tear an A4 Transparent File Folder (aka L shape Folder).
One can either use strings or Nylon strings (stapling them on the edge of the folder) to create the wraparound shape customized for your face.

Studds already is selling this since quite a few weeks. I have seen it at local hospitals including maternity homes. Please check with your local helmet dealer. Should be available.
