TVS files 'Ronin' trademark

TVS has filed a trademark application for 'TVS Ronin' in India. It is unclear as to which upcoming bike from the company would get this name.

TVS is reportedly working on a new bike based on the 310 platform, which underpins the Apache RR 310 and the BMW G 310 range of motorcycles. The new model could be a naked version of the Apache RR 310 and could be positioned as a rival to the Bajaj Dominar 400.

Reports also suggest that TVS could be working on a new cruiser model. It could be a production version of the TVS Zeppelin concept that was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo.

There is also a possibility of a new TVS scooter getting the Ronin name.

Re: TVS files 'Ronin' trademark

I hope it is the production version of the Zepellin concept. It was a beautiful motorcycle when displayed at the Auto Expo - and a genuine contender to the power cruiser segment which Bajaj failed to crack with the Dominar.

Interestingly, Ronin is also a custom motorcycle manufacturer based out of California. Remember seeing their bikes long back in Jay Leno's garage -

Going by the name, I get a feeling this is going to be a retromodern UJM type bike along the lines of the Suzuki Samurai, Shogun and Shaolin.

Re: TVS files 'Ronin' trademark

I believe that it is going to be the production Zepellin, a bike that has been on the sidelines for far too long. Going by TVS's past record, I doubt they will bring out a completely new design out of the blue. If the Ronin gets the 310 engine, it would be a good move from TVS as they would have the faired and cruiser variants while their partner BMW would have the naked and adventure variants. That way there would be no overlap.

drt_rdr's line of thinking makes a lot of sense given their product history, though I just dont see TVS pulling if off in 2020.

Samurai , Shogun , Shaolin , Katana now ronin. Yet to come Seppuku.

Get over this Japanese fix. Try numbers like BMW.

Inside info : No TVS product will ever end in letter 'a'. Supra , Centra etc were all failures.

Re: TVS files 'Ronin' trademark

Why is Sundaram Clayton mentioned? Do they normally apply for trademarks under that company?

I'd prefer Kamikaze over Seppuku. And I'd fall head over heels for a manic dual sport bike named Banzai.

To be fair though, Japanese name aren't that common, even on Japanese bikes. But names like Ninja, Hayabusa did a lot for the image of those products. If it's going to be a cruiser, I'd say Ronin fits the bill nicely.

All of the above mentioned products were launched when it was TVS-Suzuki, and the name made sense, since Suzuki is Japanese.
Also pretty sure Katana was always a Suzuki, never a TVS.

And TVS is slowly getting to numbers. RTR 160, RTR 200, RR310 etc.

Zepplin R is to be launched soon, according to PowerDrift. Are we in for a surprise? Because earlier in January this year, Rushlane reported that TVS does not have any plans to launch the Zepplin, change of minds, or just a rumor?
