Isnt this the most fuel efficient bike or something? I believe a friend had this and he would fill fuel for 50/- and then keep running for few weeks before refueling again; of course, am talking about 15 years back.

Re: Bajaj CT100 gets 8 new features; priced at Rs. 46,432

It is amazing that Bajaj can produce a modern bike which complies with safety and emissions regulations for around Rs. 50k. In most countries, including developing ones like Vietnam, a basic 2 wheeler costs more than triple of this. Bajaj has mastered the art of frugal engineering. I really hope they get more export volumes.

Digging that olive green color! Also the price well below 50k warms my heart. A whole 15k less than Splendor. A true old school cool, now only if it kept the round headlamp from Boxer days

I believe you might be referring to the Kawasaki Bajaj 4S Champion. It was truly the mileage champion of its time, and quite good in the reliability stakes too.

Once upon a time this bike used to be available with 18 inch rims, then Bajaj shifted to 17 inchers without making any changes to front suspension, mudguard mounting point, etc. Just like this bike, the gap between front mudguard and tyre has survived the test of time.

I am pleasently surprised at that price.

We had a Bajaj Boxer CT about 20 years back which was based on Bajaj-Kawasaki 4S Champion engine (Not sure if CT 100 uses the same engine tech) and man, no matter how much that engine was abused, it used to return at least 65kmpl in Pune. That engine is the only thing which I liked about Bajaj.

Since when did "Fuel meter" become a feature? I thought this was standard in all motorcycles. Was this added as the motorcycle has FI instead of the carburetor?

CT100KS was priced at 44,890/- earlier for the KS (Kick Start version). With these 8 new features - prices have increased to 46,432/-

Direct competition - Hero HF Deluxe with alloys wheels and kick start costs 49,950/-, though, would be lacking in some of the above features. Hero has a more established customer base - so price isn't a big differentiator for Bajaj here.

I still don't understand why Bajaj cannot offer tubeless tyres on a so-called kadak bike. Just checked their website - ct100, ct110, platina 100 - none of these have tubeless tyres. It's the same case even with Hero HF Deluxe.

Just like Maruti used to behave weird by considering power windows as a premium feature, Bajaj and hero are treating tubeless tyres as a premium feature I guess.

Initial batch of CT100 (around 2005) came with fuel meter and removed later.

This was one of the major failing part in CT100. Initial batches came with almost solid mount indicators (lifted from Bajaj BYK, is people still remember that) and every now and then it will break. Facelift or the later gen came with a small oval indicator better than the previous one. Easy fix is to replace with Pulsar part.

Re: Bajaj CT100 gets 8 new features; priced at Rs. 46,432

Post BS6 implementation, all the Hero vehicles are equipped with FI tech, where as Bajaj has opted for the e-Carb to keep the costs low. But, if someone were to pick one now, one would rather opt for the Hero HF Deluxe as the FI tech and sensors are all worth the additional 3-4k spent over CT100, despite having slightly lesser features. Would be interesting to know more on e-Carb vs FI.

It is primarily for the delivery folks, who mount their phones on the handlebar cross tube.

Say what you will but this, the old CT 100, the Splendor and Hero Deluxe are the true workhorses of rural India. The TVS XL / 50 family used to rule the roost but have disappeared for some time now, but are being relaunched in new avatars so might take the spot again.

It is on this family that rural India commutes, works, trades etc etc.

That is those who can afford bikes as the majority still walk or take a bus.

Nope. If there was one EVERGREEN 2-wheeler, then it is the TVS-50/XL family. I believe it has also created a record on the number of two wheelers it has sold from 1970s.

The amount of "load" or luggage it can carry is mind boggling. It is only the people's imagination that limits it! :-) And the versatility - it can go anywhere, it is light even it can be lifted up manually over gutters/pavements, slush, crowded markets - you name it, it will fit the bill.

Granted, the young and the fashionable will never even look at it, but the utility and the trouble free life it offers is just amazing.

Don't disagree with this but it is a fact that it doesn't sell those kind of numbers anymore.

Take July and Aug 2020 for instance (from our own T BHP numbers thread),

Activa sold 318,000 units,

Splendor and Hero Deluxe - 300,000 each

TVS XL Super - 120,000

Actually the CT 100 is very low on the totem pole also, 60,000 total.

Pre Covid the difference is starker, From Jan 2020,

Activa has a brutal lead in total units sold, 340,000

The Splendor + Deluxe each at 300,000

TVS XL - 100,000

I wonder if it is a North / South thing though, haven't seen many XL's up north but the absolutely dominate in TN for one.
