The Honda Grom is a mini bike with a wheelbase of 1,100 mm. It features an LED headlight, LED tail light and a digital instrument cluster.

The Grom is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 9.65 BHP @ 7,000 rpm and 10.8 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox.

The bike features a 31 mm upside down fork suspension at the front and has a monoshock at the rear. It comes with a 220 mm disc brake at the front and a 190 mm disc at the rear. The bike rides on 12-inch alloy wheels and has optional ABS.

Re: Honda files patent for 2021 Grom in India

They have failed big with the NAVI and again trying out the same mini formula?

And moreover, this comes with a 4-speed gearbox which doesn't belong to this day and age.

Yes, there might be a market for this somewhere, but definitely not in India. And this will mostly be priced at 50k + which makes it DOA.

Reminds me of the Navi, a lot. Navi was scooter on stilts, this one is a downgraded bike. Right off the bat the wheels look awkward, especially seeing as how much higher the mudguard is placed at the back. It seems this one was lauded for its frugality in the US, so maybe Honda is planning to dangle THAT carrot in front of India.

I wonder what is so unique, it deserves a patent?

It all started of with the monkey bike, a small children's motorcycle adapted by adults for use as a bike that could be transported everywhere and used for short hops throughout the day. Think of how minicycles like the Brompton are used on aircraft carriers! Full size trail bikes were also adapted by switching to scooter wheels for short hops on racing circuits, hence the monicker, pit bikes.

Both these adaptations turned into street legal, factory products, the KLX 110 and the Grom.

Honda India tried to adapt the Dio with the Navi, to solve the problem of the steadily deteriorating roads, but couldn't steer demand away from motorcycles chosen for the road situation, because of fuel economy, ground clearance and the torque offered by the motorcycle.

Hence the Grom, and the patent protection, to avoid competition from the other two wheeler majors.

Ex-showroom pricing of 5 lakhs for this will have 5 people justifying the Legendary Honda experience and 0 buying it.
