Which is the best Indian e-bike today ?

Hey guys !

Have been hearing a lot about e-bikes these days and am considering picking up one for wifey. Just a few thoughts on my mind which I wanted clarified :

a) How long would an electric motor last ? I am aware that there are no other maintenance issues with a e-bike but this is one thing that I am concerned about.

b) Which brand do u guys suggest ? I have heard Hero have launched their models but there isnt one single dealer here in Chennai

c) Any other issues u foresee in an e-bike ? Pick up apparently isnt an issue as the slower the better for wifey

If any Chennai members could help me with the dealer contacts for YO ebikes, that will be great !

Cheers,

J

I think the electric motor life is not a problem. The batteries will have to be replaced after a certain number of cycles (kms) because lead acid batteries have limited life.

@ slipstrem
Here's a quick report of the yo-bike i got for my mom 2 months back
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...ghlight=e-bike

After 2 months of usage the only problem that has popped up is of braking which isn't upto the mark but i guess that will be solved after the second servicing

There are now atleast half a dozen manufacturers now, I think. Atleast in Pune.
The chinese imports rule, as even companies like Atlas (cyclewale) are importing them. Dont even bother to remove their stickers.
I saw another odd looking bug eyed e-bike today. It was called...wait for this... SUV!!!.

@sajo
The atlas that you have mentioned are mainly aimed at the kids (read 12-15 yrs age) since their payload carrying capacity is also less

i tried out something called Glide 25 by Vijaya Electric and here are my impressions :

a) Looks quite impressive at first sight. Good quality of plastics, paint colors & switchgear

b) Decent under seat storage capacity (can manage about half a helmet)

c) The bike's floorboard is so high that tall riders would literally have to sit with their knees straddling their neck. This is one extremely uncomfortable feature that I personally found annoying and my wife (who's only used to riding bicycles before) echoed my opinion

d) Pick up was lower than what I had expected from an e-bike. Waited for a few seconds before it started moving forward and in 2-3 seconds VOILA - top speed of 25kmph. Wife however was very comfortable with this.

e) Costs 22500/- here in Chennai.

Decided against it as I would like to try out other models

anyways will try headers to see what his friend's got...
