Hero MotoCorp's first electric 2-wheeler coming in 2022

Electric 2-wheelers are slowly gaining popularity in India. With big names like Bajaj Auto and TVS entering the fray, customers now have a handful of options to choose from. Hero MotoCorp is yet to enter this space but that is about to change.

Niranjan Gupta, CFO, Hero MotoCorp, has confirmed that the company will launch its first electric 2-wheeler in the first quarter of 2022.

While details about the new model are scarce, it is said that the company has been working on fixed as well as swappable battery technology in collaboration with Taiwan-based Gogoro.

There was split in the family and Hero Motorcorp - belonging to the Pawan Munjal family, cannot use the Hero name for their electric vehicle ventures. Makes sense for them to bring the Gogoro brand to India. Will be exciting to see these products.

Globally, Gogoro has a JV with Yamaha, so I don't know how this will play out in India considering Yamaha has a presence here as well.

I feel this is the most logical solution to over come the battery capacity issue. With the batteries being swappable the need for having more square footage of charging station goes away too.

Hope Hero is able to execute on the plan well.

P.S: They should just buy the tech outright else they will create another Hero-Honda saga.

That's another family member, who runs an operation of assembling chinese electric two wheeler kits.
