Honda files patent for PCX Electric scooter in India

Honda has filed a patent for the PCX electric scooter in India.

The PCX e-scooter was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. It uses a 4.2 kW motor that is powered by a 50.4 V lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack is removable but it can also be charged while connected to the scooter. It is said to offer a maximum range of 40 km on a single charge.

The PCX features a sporty maxi-scooter look. It has a large front apron with a twin headlamp setup and an integrated windscreen. It comes with an LCD instrument cluster and a remote start key.

The electric scooter is equipped with telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. It rides on alloy wheels and comes with a single front disc brake.

The Honda PCX e-scooter could compete with the likes of the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak. However, it is still unclear if Honda will launch it in the Indian market.

40Km range is too small for it to be a success, especially given that the scooter looks bulky.

Re: Honda files patent for PCX Electric scooter in India

The range seems to be quite less for a scooter of that size.
Ather 450x provides a range of ~85km.
Bajaj has claimed a range of ~90km for the Chetak.
TVS iQube advertises a range of ~75km.

Though I am not saying that 40km would not suffice the daily needs of an average person. But it would keep the 'Range Anxiety' to a maximum, especially when the say a maximum range of 40km.

The battery pack is swappable, which would definitely help, but that extra battery would surely come at an extra price!

Saw the news today, 40KMs! Isn't that what the petrol version gives in real life?
Very disappointing.
