Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 to launch in Q4 2024

According to media reports, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 is expected to be launched in Q4 2024. The motorcycle would carry a price tag of around Rs. 4 lakh (ex-showroom).

It is being said that the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 would not be as off-road-capable as the current model. Moreover, it is expected to be made available in two variants. The one with alloy wheels would be a sports-tourer whereas the other with wire-spoke wheels would be an adventure-tourer.

Speaking of wheels, the Himalayan 650 might have a 19-in front wheel and not the 21-in unit that comes fitted in the current Himalayan. Other features would include a TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, multiple riding modes, and traction control.

Media reports claim that the design of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 would be similar to that of the current 411cc model. It would also have a higher-mounted exhaust and better brakes. As for the engine, the 649cc, parallel-twin engine from the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 would be used.

As per the available information, when launched, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 would not carry this moniker. RE might use a different name.

For a moment thoughts went on...here comes the long awaited alloy wheel for Inty & Conti

But then the outgoing 411 cc has 21-17 inch wheels!!

36 months to launch!

we can debate the pros and cons in 33 months when we see production ready mules on road.

It is a long time away and the market will be very different. It is so far out it may not even be launched.

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 to launch in Q4 2024

Essentially a different bike just using the Himalayan's silhouette. Whether they use the name or not will be a business decision. Something like the Safari.

Makes sense practically though. This would actually have a strong chance of hitting production.

RE know that to be a capable off roader they need a lighter and stronger bike with more responsive engine and reliability.
All of the these is very different from what they usually do and to be fair simple, middleweight retro motorcycles is their stated goal.
But if RE really design a separate off roader with these traits, it will fundamentally change the way we look at RE

But having a separate powetrain and component lineup running for 500-800 bikes a month would not be prudent unless they're getting into the Adv game all in where they would be a relatively new entrant facing established players like KTM and Hero who have a pending XPulse upgrade. And they know their limitations better than anyone else.

So adding a soft/rough roader variant of existing motorcycles, sharing powertrain, maybe even the chassis setup with related mods to suspension and wheels and selling at a higher price and margin would make absolute sense.
Exactly what KTM do with the 390 Adv.

Rest all is when we see it in flesh

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 to launch in Q4 2024

To be honest, the current Himalayan engine is a little lacking for on-road touring.

The 650 engine set-up is too heavy for off-roading. RE is doing the best lazy approach and developing a bike that can be described as a tourer.

It is not a bad thing. Comfortable 2-up bikes with power are a rarity.

We have to understand that, if launched in the proposed avatar it is a road-based tourer.

What I don't get is, the engine is already available. Why do you need 3 years to build a chassis and suspension around it?

Or will they spring a surprise and launch it next year?

The supposed launch of the Himalayan 650 is far away - towards the end of my engineering school career. Hopefully, there’s some decent ADVs out there that can compete with the Himalayan (both versions) when I’m hunting in the market for a good tourer / off-roader!

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 to launch in Q4 2024

Q4 2024 launch rumour leaked (purposely), great Any point in announcing a launch three years in advance? Now what, people will forget or Royal Enfield will keep reminding people every now and then. Then we will have the delays due to various reasons

One thing is sure, announcing this one three years in advance, they have absolutely no place to hide if the fiasco of the earlier Himalayan motorcycle is replicated. Hope they launch a perfect bike with no flaws or issues, whenever they do.

Cheers

There was yet another report right here a few months back of a himalayan chassis snapping. not unlike how they used to when it was first launched. And this was a much more recent bike to boot. This even after several years of experience building the bike and others.

The Himalayan 650 with a powerful 650cc engine, proper luggage setup options and alloys wheels with tubeless tyres would be my choice for road based touring.

I do not intend to go off-roading, bad roads can be delt with the above setup.

If I want an Himalayan to go off-road, the the current available is the great one.

This looks like gauging enthusiasts response to the decision rather a leak.

If QC will be improved with wires getting a casing, wire ends properly sleeved and et al we may have a winner based on market in 2024 !

Which 'media report' are we talking about here? The Bikewale article? Which has absolutely no credible sourcing! The hypothetical Himalayan 650 is the hottest topic for clickbait article writers & video makers and I don't see anything different in the quoted article.

They have even quoted a price point for the motorcycle which is going to be launched in 2024!! That is some amazing time travelling these 'journalists' are capable of!

True, and at times they can be diametrically opposite! I remember a Bikewale video stating the the Meteor is more comfortable than the new gen Classic, while the Powerdrift guys claim the exact opposite, whom do you trust then?
