Royal Enfield Himalayan 450-based roadster spied

Images of an upcoming Royal Enfield roadster bike have surfaced online. The new model could be based on the Himalayan 450.

The new naked bike from Royal Enfield looks unlike any other model in the brand's line-up. It has a round headlamp, raised handlebars, a sculpted seat and a short tail section. The bike is equipped with alloy wheels that are shod with dual-purpose tyres.

The new Roadster is likely to be powered by the same liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the upcoming Himalayan 450. The bike features conventional telescopic forks at the front and has a mono-shock at the rear. It is equipped with disc brakes at both ends.

The upcoming Royal Enfield street bike could be called the Hunter 450.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450-based roadster spied

Powerdrift posted the same thing saying it could be a new Yamaha 250. However, everyone else seems to think it's a Royal Enfield.

To me the design looks great and really piques my interest. I'm actually hoping that it's a Yamaha so they can make up for the abomination that was the recently launched FZ X.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450-based roadster spied

First saw this on Powerdrift IG profile, and how they speculated it to be FZ25-X. It did feel odd though as Yamaha’s design language is different.
Today Abhinav Bhatt finally spotted all the similarities this bike has with Himmy 450, and how this is a road based variant(possibly pocket friendly also, no upside down forks!) of 450. Great observation I must say.

And again, this is how you should maintain the hype. RE and its bag of tricks.

It is an RE & not a Yamaha. PD must have seen the V3 next to it and thought it was a Yamaha, but they've followed that up with a post today.

Engine, mudguard all seem similar to the new RE 450

Is that the exhaust sticking out? Isn't that too close for comfort?

That looks like that is some camouflage material they have wrapped up there. Exhaust seems to be on the right hand side, you can see a hint of it right under the rider seat.

RE should have launched this instead of Scram 411.

Youtuber OnTwoWheelsBen who's an avid Himalayan user has also confirmed coming across the 450 test machines in the flesh.

So they're going to have a Scram 411 and a Scram 450?

They will probably stop the production of Himmy410 after the launch of 450. The LS410 will be used in scram only then.

It looks like RE will be using titanium header & BMW style brake lights for the Scram 450.

Seems like RE is in, all guns blazing! (pun intended very much)

Also, RE is the only modern manufacturer I am content and satisfied with.

All the best for their future models.

Absolutely! It is shaping up to the Scram we always wanted.
Hope the power gain (411 to 450cc) is not offset by the weight gain.

Royal Enfield Hunter 450 spied; could be based on new Himalayan

Royal Enfield is said to be working on a new 450cc motorcycle that could take on the Triumph Speed 400. The new roadster-style bike has been spotted earlier, but the latest reports suggest that it could use the same engine as the new Himalayan.

The Hunter 450 will be the second model in Royal Enfield’s 450cc line-up. Spy images reveal a road-biased design with an upright riding position. The bike has a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a circular headlamp and an instrument console.

The 452cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine produces 39.5 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and 40 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. Royal Enfield might offer the same tune on the Hunter 450. The engine is likely to be paired with a 6-speed gearbox via slip-and-assist clutch.

The test bike is fitted with a telescopic fork and has a rear mono-shock. The bike rides on alloy wheels and is equipped with disc brakes.

Wondering what use case is there for this version when the Scram will do most of what this will do while providing better ride quality.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450-based roadster spied

This is great news! I've been waiting for some updates on this bike, had my eyes set on it since it was first spied . Wonder when it's going to be launched? Maybe in Q2/Q3?

Looks like this could be my first RE. I like the hunter's naked design but it's too underpowered IMO to be used for anything else than as a daily commuter, whereas I'm looking for something that's also capable of some highway action. Hope they change the gearing for this though! If it's going to be tuned like the Himalayan I could see some troubles in the city arising due to the apparently missing torque down in the lower revs(as reported by some BHPians).

If you're talking about the current Scram, I respectfully disagree. Since it's based on the Himalayan, it's a great bike for some soft offroading and can survive highways, but it's hilariously underpowered compared to it's counterparts and is bound to lack that agility which they offer. The Scram succeeds in it's function, but the Hunter 450(if that's what it'll be called) will bring a more road-worthy offering to the table, that- if done right- is more approachable, packs a good punch, can handle the city rides, and is an overall better contender against, say, the Speed 400? More-over, scramblers are great, but to me they feel like the automotive equivalent of the jacked up hatches that are being marketed as SUVs in the Indian market- neither here, nor there! But hey, that's just my opinion!
