Thank you for the suggestion Shubhendra. My brother who is an avid bike enthusiast recommends staying away from KTM 390 and anything higher as I'm just starting out, even if budget permits.

At the moment, I'm confused between the BMW 310 triplet - although the naked would be at the bottom of my list.

I think the TVS red and black look better.

It does not look that exciting. They could have differentiated it with some leaner looking exhaust, alloys etc. May be this is a product for the international market where TVS is not there.

The thing is after engine development the exhaust is next in line in importance of R&D especially now with extremely strict Euro5/BS6 emission norms so it will be very expensive to design a new exhaust.

And yes TVS isn't available in Europe and USA market where these BMW bikes will be unique.

This is correct. The normal G310R is already getting a lot of praise by people in foreign countries who have never heard of TVS.

Why does this thing even exist in India? We literally have no use for this stickered up TVS. Name 2 things that are useful on this bike. Can’t find even one.

It’s got worse servicing than TVS. And it’s more expensive. And has a horrible name. Heck, the blue and white logo doesn’t even look good on the bike. And BMW teased this motorcycle from the rear, as if they were gonna slap on a new headlamp reminiscent of the S1000 RR!

Not gonna lie but that looks like a roadside sticker job. I see no reason why one should pick this over the RR310. Ofcourse, BMW branding but apart from that nothing else. BMW clearly made this for the overseas market and just launched it here for formality purposes.

Formality in the sense, you say thank you ma'am after an exhausting Maths class.

I think it will be cheaper / sensible to buy the BMW logo and put in on the Apache than to buy the BMW version of it

Well said! I hope TVS doesn't repeat this and (if they ever do) doesn't launch naked Apache RTR310 same as G310R with different stickering!

What would be good is if GS310 has TVS stickering . It will for sure sell more than this copy paste job. International market is what looks a good bet for BMW for this, or someone who aspires to own a BMW sports bike which is relatively inexpensive to own and maintain.

Buy this from BMW at I am hoping maybe a premium of 30-40K, then take it to TVS service center for regular servicing.

That said I will never buy this, not even for the badge and serve myself on platter to be the joke of every riding group. The paint job looks horrendous too.

I would rather have the most expensive bike in TVS line up, then the cheapest faired bike from BMW stable.

The only 'advantage' that the BMW has is that it will probably have a 1 year service interval like the 310R and 310GS.

Another advantage is that TVS usually has much worse resale value than any of the 310 BMW bikes. You can find TVS 310 RR bikes for as low as 1.25l on olx. Nothing so cheap from the BMW stable.

I'm for one really looking forward to the launch. The Apache rr310 is a competent product, and if BMW improves on a few fronts and prices this just about right, it could prove to be a decent option. Depending on the overall response, will go with either the G 310 RR or Baby GS as my next purchase.

A prospective question to my fellow BHpians: would the G 310 RR or GS310 be a sane option for someone looking to enter the biking world? My experience is limited to daily market runabouts in the humble 150cc category bikes and scooty, but I intend to buy a new, decently equipped bike to do occasional Mumbai-Pune-Satara trips, and explore the nearby region on a bike. Nothing more than that, no adventurous off-roading, or long inter-state trips.
aniket13, the reason for any lack of excitement on the forum is because this is a well known wine in a more expensive bottle. The BMW G 310 RR is going to have very minimal changes over the Apache RR 310. If you are looking for the BMW badge, then yes, the G 310 RR or the GS 310 are very good options for you. Do keep in mind that owning and living with a BMW badged 310 will be a lot more expensive than the TVS equivalent. The owners circles that you interact with, will be very different as well.

Probably, but many middle class people would prefer NOT to shell out a larger sum of money at one go, even if it’s after a 1 year / 10,000 km interval. Speaking from others’ experiences.

And in Bangalore, where the road tax is insanely high for the kind of crappy tarmac laid here, people quote prices that are 70-80% of what they’d have paid when they bought the bike new. Even KTMs, which have a shite resale value everywhere else, have scorn worthy price tags here on OLX and other platforms. And for a person who keeps their bike for the long haul, the resale value hardly matters, especially when this is just a sticker job. But many Instagram posers might potentially buy this bike, who knows?
