KTM has unveiled the revised 2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE (spoked wheel edition) with the much awaited feature.

The bike now has tough and light black anodized aluminum rims and spoked wheels (19” front and 17” rear) so even the hardest of bumps and stones will not bring a journey to a swift halt.

Ride-by-wire, Motorcycle Traction Control, Cornering ABS, OFFROAD mode (more rear wheel slip) and linked OFFROAD ABS (disengaged on the rear, reduced on the front) are feathered by the 46mm throttle body and the slipper clutch while being administered through the 5” color TFT and intuitive handlebar switch.

For 2023 the KTM 390 ADVENTURE comes in two different choices: the ‘spoked wheeled’ edition and then the version with cast wheels and black/orange or blue/orange color scheme.

Questions is - When will we get this in India? We didn't get the top-spec suspension, will this be given a miss as well?

It belies logic that KTM India can’t see the value in launching the spoked wheel iteration of the 390A in India. It will fly off the shelves like nothing else - guaranteed! Tubeless spokes will of course be the cherry on top.

I'm unsure if it would be tubeless spoke wheels. Wouldn't they have mentioned it had that been the case? And AFAIK, the spoked wheel setup they launched as a power parts abroad a year or so back also wasn't tubeless.

AFAIK all KTM 390s (for the entire world) are made in India. So we may be the first ones to get this one.

Not necessarily, many times motorcycles are made in India but certain models or versions are only for export.

Tubeless would just be the icing but even a general spoke wheel set up would be a sweet addition like I said.

In some sense, it really is ALL the bike one needs for all season / all conditions touring with distinct highway cruising advantages over the X Pulse in particular. Both Hero and RE will have (hopefully) improved ~400 cc offerings very soon, albeit at a different price point and if KTM would have launched this a while ago it would have had an early foothold in this segment.

Next 12 - 24 months are quite exciting actually for the riding community - lots of promising new launches to look forward to, across a wide price spectrum.

Purely out of curiosity, why much awaited? If anyone were so keen, can't they anyway upgrade easily in the after-market? Or are spoked wheels not available that easily?

My Mahindra Classic originally came with spoked wheels. Tough as nails, but a headache to keep clean and I hated the looks. Changed it eventually.

Spokes are available, and so are the wheels. The part that’s difficult to get is the hub. That’s why so many RE 650 owners are still complaining about their spoked wheels: they can’t find alloys with a similar hub design.

Spoke wheels are easily available - the Xpulse and the Himalayan ones would perfectly suit the 390 ADV. But they are not an exact fit due to the hub design being different.

Is there any news on the 390 Rally / Enduro - I am eagerly waiting for the Enduro / Rally / 400 Xpulse.

It would be great if we get the above mentioned specifications in the Indian version of the Adv390. But knowing how KTM was hesitant to launch the fully spec'd version in Indian markets last time I doubt if they would do so this time as well. But there is going to be good amount of competition from Hero and RE in this range and KTM would be aware of that. It would be great if there are 2 versions of this in the Indian market one with alloys and non adjustable suspension and the top spec version with spokes and adjustable suspension. Atleast this way they would give buyers a choice instead of how they did last time around. May tilt the decision in favor of Adv390 for a lot of folks whichever version they choose.

Totally agree with you. This is what Hero did with the Xpulse - got the stock and the Rally version. But they also gave the customer the option to buy the complete or the partial rally kit. KTM has the kit - but they just have to make it available to the customer.

Shouldn't the wheels be made from steel in an off-road vehicle? Isn't almunium prone to warping in heavy impacts like hitting a rock or pillion overload?

Good news is that its at least coming to India if OD’s definitive statement holds good. I’ve heard rumblings from some ADV groups that this will come pretty soon. Maybe as early as April / May window. Now to wait and see.

I was planing to add 390 ADV to my garage, and had visited the Showroom couple of weeks back. They understandably only had 2022 models for sale at that time, so when I asked them when will be 2023 manufactured model be available they said end march or early april. I asked them isn't it late since generally manufacturing should begin after mid of January, they said that is only what they are aware of.

I did not know about a new model coming at that time, but is this the sign of times to come?

Personally I will only buy Spoke edition if it is with tubeless tyres, the spoked wheels of Interceptor always have me worried that when will I encounter a puncture, can't live with same fear with another bike.
